The US dollar continues to fall

Avatar for dustyj

Trump is causing the US dollar to fall and it is in danger of falling much more. This is yet another casualty of Trump's incredibly stupid trade war. It's hard to believe how much damage has already been done in 100 days.

I'm sure Puddy is an uncoordinated unathletic shithead just like Trump. Trump is the guy people consider to be manly for some reason. Do you think Trump could do 1 push-up? But I guess it's funny to destroy the value of the dollar and our standing with the rest of the world. Pretty funny.

High school? I'm just not one of the 80% of adults who don't exercise. Most adults in this country are fat, lazy and sedentary. Trump's approval rating is horrible and about to get much worse as the real price increases and shortages of goods really haven't had time to hit us like they will very soon with numerous products from China not arriving. There are countless farmers who voted for Trump 3 times and now have nowhere to ship their soy beans too who are going broke and now deeply regret their vote.

A weak dollar is good for some Americans, and bad for others. Not as clear an issue as your US citizen kid being deported with your ex spouse, without you having a chance to challenge it in court.

Icey i suspect your issue with trump goes all the way back to 2018 when they shut backpage down. He made it harder for you to profiteer from drug dealing and pimping cheap backpage girls. None of the high end escorts or pornstars will let you pimp them because they use a bunch of verification methods instead of having a pimp lol. Its like a career promotion you just cant obtain…

President G. W. Bush, the son, had a falling dollar throughout his two administrations. Some argues it was on purpose so we could do more trade overseas. Our economy expanded yet what made it crash was over leveraged money domestically. Maybe trump is taking a playbook from 20 years ago?

Weak dollar allows us to sell more goods, what's more important than the strength of the dollar, is the faith and goodwill, the dollar has, because our currency is trusted it makes our country stronger, and a safe haven for many countries, which I sincerely hope, Trump's shenanigans haven't damaged too badly, because I would hate for there to be no safe haven in a real crisis.

^ You're playing the same stupid game as Mr. Trump, we sell a fuckton of services across the globe, and weapons, our weapons industry is probably the largest in the world.
Just because he makes it difficult for folks to manufacture goods abroad and they bring back a bunch of factories, they aren't going to hire many people to work in those factories, most of the actual work will be performed by robotic devices, there isn't going to be big plants, manufacturing expensive goods, the workload will be automatons and the profits will go to the shareholders not working people.
This is not what most of you MAGA folks think it is, this is an unprincipled money grab by Mr. Trump and his gang of American Oligarches, and like I've said many times me and folks like me will be fine, but the working people are having a con being run on them, they really need to open their eyes.

Using robotics and automation is a net-net good thing for society. It allows them to produce the goods at lower costs than paying manual workers who they would likely have to pay $20+ an hour each. Its the same concept as the car replacing the horse carriage… streaming services reducing demand for dvd… look at handmade leather goods vs factory made.. or if tesla decided to cut back on machine usage to hire workers instead

Twentyfive there are plenty of jobs still available that machines cant do. Generally anything based more around services, or personal interaction, wont be replaced. Something like sweeping floors and toilets will likely be replaced by machines too.
There are consulting firms that offer consulting specifically around robotics and automation. Plus there will still need to be someone building the machines, monitoring them, servicing and repairing them. There will still be work available, some jobs will be replaced, but new ones will become available. Its a normal part of a successful economy, new inventions disrupt the economy but also help improve the standard of living for everyone.

First of all I never said that GDP or the stock market weren't a reliable measure of how well the economy is doing, second of all I'm not a luddite nor am I advocating against progress, but there is a point, that this time it is different, our president has created some very harsh sentiment against our closest neighbors and best trading partners, as well as people that came here legally, this is not the America I grew up in, and it's disgusting to hear this bigotry coming from the highest elected officials in this country. Trump's negotiating tactics suck, we don't need to alienate every one of our allies, because this man has a grudge. For the record, this country was created by migration, and every wave of migration has made us stronger.
I'm not worried about AI ending our jobs, I am worried about how we are treating people, this has happened before, and each time it's caused major problems, until sanity returned and the nativist yahoos, that thought they had a lock on who is an American returned to their hidey holes.
I'm not some woke liberal, I am an American citizen that believes that the center must hold for our country to thrive.

For the record, idiots that don't realize that valid criticism is not Trump Derangement Syndrome, that is pure crap, and the phrase is used by idiots that know they don't have a valid argument.

Why do you focus on things that happened probably before you were born, let’s just talk about what’s happening now
Who’s blaming immigrants for Trumps dislike of them, that’s silly
No Trump plays both ends of this argument, complains constantly about how bad immigrants are then bends rules to staff his own businesses.
Why am I a Luddite is it because I disagree with you on style points.
I’ve given him credit for being an asshole, I certainly don’t think he’s very competent
Sure we can use more things made here, but the reality is there just aren’t enough workers to fill the jobs we have now, just use the industry I’m most familiar with, construction as an example. The rest of this argument is style points and doesn’t amount to a hill of beans, you want to have some sort of control over who comes here, so do I, you want to control who votes in our elections, so do I, what else is there to say, I don’t want this country to fail, but I don’t believe separation of families is a good look for us, you want to stop China from stealing our money, I don’t too, but I don’t think fighting with Mexico or Canada is an effective strategy. I mean really it’s style points, I don’t generally think that we will reach agreement by making derogatory remarks about our fellow citizens, yet here we are, some of you MAGA folks dont have anything else to say except TDS, I call bullshit, I’ve sacrificed for my country, many times it’s been demeaned by certain people who don’t even know me.

To your point about illegal immigrants, yep there are a bunch that don’t belong here but the extreme right is revoking the rights of those who are here legally, and I don’t think they need to be doing this to children who don’t have much say is very humane, a little extra caution isn’t a bad thing and is warranted to do things in my name.

Every time I read that the US doesn't make anything anymore I seriously question the education in this country and I hate the media even more. Economics needs to be taught starting at 3rd grade to high school (this goes for the rest of world too).

We have been increasing on average in production from 1.3T in 1997 to 2.5T in 2021
macrotrends.net

We are the second most productive country on the planet next to China. Yes, China's production is at 4T, but they also make plastic shit, low cost items, and use slave labor. The other major producers (Japan (1T), Germany (806B), South Korea (459B)) (notice the drop off there) actually take skill and make the world a better place.

All high level, wealth producing manufacturing will be automated, that is just fact. Automation will also take over lower skilled manufacturing. If we want to slow this down, then reduce regulations and get ride of minimum wage. .

@Dustyj and @Icey - these are 2 reasons why there are warnings on Dry Cleaner Bags. YET, there are no warnings on 1 gallon ZipLok bags that are used by MS-13 & TdA to slowly suffocate people to death.

@chiefwiggum I recently saw a stress test of a 60 year old sledge hammer Made in USA and a 5 year old sledge hammer Made in China. Guess which one was better? And that goes for all products. Remember when LED lights on Amazon had a "50,000 hour" rating - mine were dying after 3,000 hours yet my original GE Lightsticks that I run sunset-sunrise have been working for over 12 years in serious heat/cold weather in Colorado.

And yes, you are spot on! Wait until we see what happens when Optimus (learning compared to programed Boston Robotics) robots are as fast and agile as humans in 3-5 years. They'll do mundane jobs for 18 hours a day/7 days a week, be a lease expensive (not labor), and will cost $3/hr. And, when they need to be replaced, download or swap in the memory chip from the one they are replacing and there is no training/learning curve.

I m always amazed that people who think they are smart look at the short-term impact or a long-term policy and at that point determine success or failure. If progressives were in charge of the first electric light, car, plane etc., not being immediately successful, would have never moved to a second stage. If you read foreign news, you get the idea China is beginning to hurt big time and is making a lot of tariff exceptions.

Nazis are a fringe element on both the left and right. Maybe under 10% on both sides. They have nothing to do with americas big problems.
Now if you mean generalized racism, that is a more prevalent issue but even then its prevalent across the political spectrum.
