People sometimes erroneously assume that MA must be a lot like NY or CA because of its progressive tax and spend policies, but nothing could be further from the truth.

It was only in 2003 when blue laws banning the opening of liquor stores on Sundays were finally relaxed and, to this day, trace elements of the judgmental philosophies originally embraced by the original colonists still exist. Mix with this the old school feminist movement that is still alive and well in MA, including the belief that sex workers are all inherently victims, and you have a potent recipe for heavy handed enforcement of prostitution laws.

This extends to strip clubs as well. There is a reason why there are so few in MA on a per capita basis. It is nearly impossible to get a new one open nowadays, so when the old ones die they usually don't get replaced. The area zoned to allow strip clubs in Boston proper is a single small alley near the border of Chinatown, lmao. There are only two strip clubs there and the second, Centerfolds, had to fight the city for many years before they could finally get the club open.

In the late 60s and early 70s adult fun could be had in Boston's "Combat Zone" which included ABSs, adult theaters and prostitution. But like Giuliani did in Times Square the moralist in Boston did in the mid 70s by "cleaning up" the area. Similarly, "The "Block" in Baltimore is nothing like it was in the heyday of the 60s.

Apparently yet another case of rescuing "victims" by making them poorer: apnews.com

^ I've always been creeped out by AMPs for a reason. Seems like half the girls had their passports taken away, get busted, then the proprietors open up a mile down the road a month later.
