The science says 119 BPM is the optimal rythm for sex

119 BPM is in the neighborhood of 2 beats per second. If you count "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi", and clap your hands twice each "Mississippi" you'll be clapping at 120 BPM. You can also lookup a song's BPM by browsing to SongBPM.com.

Here are a few tracks in this neighborhood:

* Gorillaz - DARE (120 BPM)
* Lady Gaga - Bad Romance (119 BPM)
* Journey - Don't Stop Believing (119 BPM)
* Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal (118 BPM)
* The Police - Every Breath You Take (117 BPM)
* Tom Petty - Love is a Long Road (116 BPM)

Questions for discussion:

* Is the ideal tempo for sex the same as for getting a lap dance? Why or why not?
* If you were making a sex playlist all in the neighborhood of 119 BPM, which tracks would you include?

    The new rules say you’ve got to say Omaha not Mississippi
    😁

    They both take about a second to pronounce, so either works. But why does the magnolia state get the shaft?

    I thought back on some of the songs I’ve danced to, and they are generally 100-140 bpm…which turns out to be the same general range of most popular music in general.

    But hmm, I do question the idea of optimal bpm and boinking. What about a quickie right before having to go to work or something? Or if one had an edible and time perception is kinda a blur? How about more romantic style and then lots of pillow talk after? Or what about if blindfolded and handcuffed?

    Like idk, it seems like the pacing range might be different for those things? Maybe there needs to be a dedicated research branch for this, with government grant pools established just for this ahahaha

    Yeah, all good questions. I think for the quickie I'd go with some punk rock in the 160-200 range, haha. Slower I think for blind folded with handcuffs. Closer by NIN (90 BPM) might be right for that. What do you think?

    Yaaaasss. We need more data on this, the science isn't that sound yet and we have a lot to learn.

    @GGB - if your profile pic is really you, I’d have to go a lot slower than 119 BPM.
    Let us know if you’re ever dancing in South Florida.

    How is it not that fast? In addition to everything else youve lied about, you also want to lie about your speed…?

    120 BPM is not fast or slow it's kind of the Goldilocks tempo, the pace of a brisk walk.

    What you mentioned in the OP though Ron, it’s impossible to say 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, twice within one second. Maybe 1.5 seconds at best

    You kind of have to say it REALLY fast, or pronounce it wrong, like "MISS-I-PI" for it to work counting seconds. Maybe @25 has a point that it's better to count "1 Omaha, 2 Omaha", haha.

    the Brits either say "piccadilly" or "lancashire" instead of "Mississippi".

    I think it’s good for that. I think it’s a great titty bar song in general as well.

    As far as the original questions:

    I’m not entirely sure what the best lapdance tempo is. Some customers definitely like different lapdance styles, and speed in general.

    As far as a general playlist based on 119 bpm, I found a giant list of a bunch of songs. If I remember, then I’ll go through it later just for fun.
