Disturbing Movie = Nightmares

They never tell you what you need to know.
I’ve always been into “sci-fi” movies that depict the near future, I find it quite interesting to see how writers think the world will be like.

I was excited when THE CREATOR came out starring Denzel Washington’s son John David who I think is an excellent actor.

In the movie (in the future - I think it was around 2070) AI has taken over and people that have died have essentially “cloned” themselves into robots and in this point in time in the movie, the clones are starting to look more like humans than robots. An event happens and the United States bans AI so all the “robots” flee to Asia and the United States tries to track and destroy them. The issue of the movie is some people think AI is out to destroy the human race where others think AI is peaceful.

I know all this crap hopefully doesn’t happen someday but it was all too realistic for me, to the point I had nightmares the night after watching it.

I’m sure if 5 PLs on here go watch that movie 2 of them are going to say “this is a cheesy movie” but others will go “whoa.” BTW the cinematography is excellent in this movie, very realistic world visualizations.

Don’t worry shailynn ape. We ricks will step in before any of that shit happens.

Hell, I’ve wanted to go all wildebeest on the ass of many a tech executive when I destroy some high tech thingie because it wasn’t designed to survive lion claws. How many times have I written Apple saying “you damn dirty apes gotta test whether your iPads can be used by lions and tigers and bears.” Do they pay attention? No!

Anyhoo, how is a damn dirty ape that can’t make an iPad that able survive use by a horny bear that wants to watch some bear porn gonna clone himself into a robot body. Let them master makin’ durable iPads before worrying about terminator shit. ROAR!!!

Ha ha - I haven’t lost sleep over a movie since my big brother to me to see the Exorcist when I was 12.

After a priest told everyone at Mass to boycott the movie my brother turned to me and said, “We’re going tonight.”

I'd rather watch porn and wake up with a hard on and blue balls.

I’m with you studme53, I can’t remember a movie leaving such an impression on my that I had a nightmare related to it. This one did it.

Sounds like an interesting movie- I love sci fi - I’ll check it out.

BTW - the backstory/explanation in Dune (written in 1965) as to why these advanced societies don’t use computers is because there was some kind of AI revolt against humans - so we banned them.

As a result, humans need the mind expanding “Spice” to do complex things like space travel, making Spice the most valuable thing in the universe.

Sorry about the sci-fi geek out lol.

The only movie I ever found to be disturbing, wasn’t a sci fi, it was Misery with Kathy Bates and James Caan, I don’t remember any other movies that made me lose any sleep.

The flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz still scare me.

I never saw “The Exorcist” until several years after it was released. I was in college by then. I really wished I hadn’t gone. I was raised Roman Catholic and the movie scared the shit out of me.

I can watch slasher movies with beheadings and not be phased but The Exorcist got to me.

Flying monkeys are assholes. Always buzzing around in their little monkey planes wearing little overalls and shit. Hate ‘em. Almost as much as I hate frickin’ zebras. ROAR!!

You know what I have lost so much respect for Hollywood that I just can't even buy in more on anything to have any sort of emotional response. Ever. Like that's how bad it's gotten. Shit is unwatchable. Nothing is scaring me.

I got admit watching the Faces of death movies or whatever that was called there was a few of them as a kid I was pretty spooked. In hindsight I think most of it was fake but some of it was definitely real.

If this movie was disturbing to you, I can't imagine you've watched any Black Mirror episodes, which are actually disturbing.

I just remembered a scene from Marathon Man where Dustin Hoffman is getting tortured by having his teeth drilled out, that movie kept me away from Dentist offices for a long time.

Jaws made an impression, especially on the Cape which saw an immediate 10% drop in business.

Jaws was anti-shark propaganda. No real shark would fall for that scuba tank in the mouth shit.

How would you feel if they made a movie called “Insano Divorce Lawyer” and showed what a day in the Skifredo life is like?

I skipped your summary of the Denzel film in case of spoilers, but I get what you're saying.

The (mostly British) TV show "Black Mirror" does this very well, tackling the issue of technology taking over, the repercussions, and people's general obsession with it. The show isn't perfect, and many episodes take some suspension of disbelief, but still a pretty good series. I started binge watching it and had two Black Mirror themed awful dreams in a row, so I had to take a break.

Shai, I'm a little puzzled. I had some free time last night and was searching online for another specific movie to watch when I ran across this one and decided to watch it instead.

Personally I don't see where this movie would give anyone nightmares but then again I don't recall ever having a nightmare resulting from a movie I watched. To me it wasn't scary at all and although it was fairly entertaining my take on it was that it was erratic and disjointed.

Oh well, we're all different and see things differently. But if it happens again call Muddy and he'll lend you his Billy Joel cassettes to use as background music while you sleep. do you still have a cassette player?

In 9th grade we took electives in High School. I chose Film as one. We saw a lot of movies in class, but one movie, the shortest of them all, gave me nightmares and a concern for my family. It was a 1969 film called the lottery was so understated, yet intense, that I had sleep issues for a week. It's called "the Lottery" (the short one not the full length one"), based on a short story of the same name. Not even 20 minutes and yet, mind blowing.
