They never tell you what you need to know.
Ah yes just a week away…

Too old for Townie night

Just thrilled to death to spend a day with a bunch of relatives I only see once a year

The highlight of the holiday weekend will be watching the OSU Michigan game. Is there a way both of them could lose? Haha should be a great game regardless. BTW if these two teams keep the result razor thin close I think there’s an argument to throw them both into the playoffs.

Huh, I guess tusclers are not looking forward to thanksgiving?

Anyways, I’ll be looking forward to the excuse to get away from the snow. Yay!

If the OSU-Michigan game was in Ann Arbor we know what would happen. There would be a fight in the tunnel after the game!

Townie Night? Is that Thanksgiving Eve? a.k.a. the biggest party night of the year?

I still get hammered only I do it at my local VFW with $2 beers and $3 Crown shots 3 minutes from my house.

Oh townie night. Depending on what article you read townie night is the 1st, 2nd or 3rd biggest party night in the US (sometimes behind Halloween and NYE). One thing undisputed is it the biggest BAR night of the year in many cities especially small towns.

I used to have a bunch of old friends that would come into town we’d get drunk out and crash at my house. The next morning there’s be 8-10 guys at my house, 3 random girls, and at least one guy sleeping on the floor in the garage because he was too drunk to be let into the house. It got so big we used to rent a limo and I catered the late night at my house. Now everyone has kids and we are all boring.

I still enjoy Thanksgiving, but it's a lot of work between the cooking and the cleaning. The kids seem to think that the special dishes they enjoy, like twice baked potatoes, magically appear. Fortunately I can space out the work once the cooking is done, maybe after a nap and during football halftimes and breaks.

^ Twice baked potatoes take up an amazing amount of time, but I would kill for my wife's and it ain't my time lol. Thanksgiving is the only important holiday in my extended family and always has been. I am 65 in 3 weeks, so this is Turkey Day #64 for me. I have had it at my Grandmother's, Aunt's, Mother's and a cousin's house. Except for the pandemic I have had it with this cousin every year of my life. When we all grew up and moved away no one came back for Christmas or other holidays but we all came back for Thanksgiving. My first year without one uncle, ending a streak 0f 63 years.
The one remaining holiday that has jack shit to do with gifts. Just food, wine and song with those you love. I cannot fucking wait. The only down note is that we used to make the day before thanksgiving the official start of ski season. Our theory was the following day we'd be drinking and laying around doing nothing, so being beat to shit sore wouldn't matter or harm a day. Hell, there was no such thing as black Friday back then. We did this from 1981 to 2010. At the beginning we'd have 15-20 people. By 2010 it was 2-3 as people aged badly. I went alone until 2016 and then gave up. Cancel the down note comment, I decided I will go Tuesday. Happy Thanksgiving all.

This will be the first year that I have not had to cook anything. My grand daughters are now old enough to take over those chores. I expect I will be asked to carve the turkey.

I was talking to a favorite dancer a couple of days ago. She plans to order take out for Thanksgiving. No family get together. She doesn't even know where her daughter is. Sad!

I love thanksgiving. Not sure if any other soccer fans here since flagooner disappeared but Portugal plays a World Cup match v. Ghana at 11a on thanksgiving day. Weird with the World Cup in November but will be cool to watch Ronaldo and that match before American football.

Turkey is the most overrated food out there--even when it's "good," it's mediocre. Other than a good stuffing, the other Thanksgiving trappings like gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, are overrated too.

And don't just say "you're only saying that because you haven't had good turkey." All turkey has a funky, gamey flavor, and 99% of it is dried the fuck out, too. At best it's a proteinaceous delivery device for everything else on the plate.

Instead, I'm going out with family to a nice steak dinner. Give me a New York Strip au poivre, creamed spinach, and a Caesar salad any day.

@shadowcat, I'll be crying into my third Moscow Mule of the night that I had a primo cut of medium-rare beef rather than commoditized tradition. Somehow I'll live.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and has been as long as I can remember. As long as I've lived in Florida, I've hosted, and this year is no different, family is pretty scattered but they'll all be here by Wednesday, Thursday, we will have no less than 24 people here, turkey and filet will be on the menu and I am going to roast the turkey and cook the filet, Chateau Briand style, plenty of side dishes, the potato au gratin gets eaten pretty quicky, and the s AM tuffing will be provided usin my garndma's recipe by my cousin who'll be here by 8AM to help with the cooking, the Macy's parade will be on early then all the screens will be tuned in to the NFL games, and maybe some of the younger cousins will jump in the pool. I look forward to this all year and hope it's as good for all of you as it will be for me.

IMO Thanksgiving is the purest American holiday, no commercialism although that dramatically changes the day after, it's a bit early to say it but Happy Thanksgiving to most of you.
Unfortunately a few here don't deserve a happy anything.

Regarding the Wed night before, the biggest party night of the year, I have some great memories of those nights but not looking for any more, I'll be staying home Thanksgiving Eve.

Luckily this year I don't have to cook or host Thanksgiving so all I have to do enjoy good food, family and football at my brother's house. My siblings and I rotate hosting holidays and since I hosted Easter that means my brother hosts Thanksgiving and my sister is hosting Christmas. Cooking Easter dinner and decorating Easter eggs for 21 people was bad enough and I am very thankful to not have to cook Thanksgiving for everyone. All I am responsible for bringing is some wine and some bourbon.

And to the OP's point, the Ohio State game against that damn team up north is always a highlight and this year's should be the best since 2006 when they were ranked 1 and 2.

Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is townie drunk fest in New England. I plan on hammering beers all night with my sister and 50 years worth of friends in Framingham.

I was planning on hitting my favorite club Wednesday afternoon but I just realized that the traffic in late afternoon is going to be horrible. So I am going tomorrow and will then stay out of the clubs until next week.

I am looking forward to TheeOSU and whodey dining on crow with all the trimmings!😂

Most ironic thing - my dental hygienist is an OSU grad. Hope she's forgotten by my next appointment!

In all seriousness, it should be one of the best matchups in recent years. Hopefully, there will be a rematch in the national final!! Go Big 10!!!🏈

To "most" of you I wish a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones and a meal fit for a king.

But a few of you, I hope you spend the day alone, wallowing in misery, eating canned soup and stale bread, and your dog runs away from home. You know who you are, so fuck you and have a shitty holiday.

Did any of the Michigan fans here even watch that near-catastrophe against Illinois last week? The Big Ten is kinda trash, and that's coming from an Illini.
  • ATACdawg
I did watch it, and U of M was definitely asleep until about halfway through the fourth quarter. Plus the Illini put up one heck of a fight. Big Blue definitely can't go to sleep like that this weekend or OSU will beat them like rented mules.

I really no rooting interest when it comes to OSU-Michigan. I hate them both. But I will admit when it's a snowy cold day in either Ann Arbor or Columbus and a playoff spot is on the line, these two teams usually put on a great show and fight like fuckin' dogs at the last game of the season.

I just like Mich better as a school and class of people, so I will be pullin for them.

We all hate right wing cunts in here like Ski-Fagg and Tetra-Fagg. So yeah, fuck them to hell and hope they choke on a turkey bone.

Ski, Tetra and I are all doing just fine and will enjoy the holiday even more knowing that you're outdoors eating scraps from a garbage can.

My days of doing the Thanksgiving Eve bar crawl are over. I can't handle hangovers anymore and I've no patience for seeing some people I went to high school with the only time I see them the entire year only to be reminded of why I never liked them to begin with.

Thanksgiving itself is fine, if a little low key depressing when I think of how many more people we had when I was growing up before the older generation died off and many others moved all across the country. Most of the extended family was concentrated within 2 hours of Boston when I was young. That changed a long time ago.
