OT: Golden Steer Steakhouse Vegas ?

Avatar for Papi_Chulo
Papi_ChuloMiami, FL (or the nearest big-booty club)

Was just watching a YouTube vid - the vid wasn't about the steakhouse but the guy in the vid had dinner there and had about a 5-minute clip of his dinner - the guy in the vid raved about the place - I briefly looked at the steakhouse website and seems pretty pricey/upscale.

I'd never heard of this place but seems it's kinda a Vegas institution.

Since so many of you have been to Vegas (often multiple times); anyone familiar with this place? If so what did you think about it?

Just curious since I'd never heard of it.

^ I know, just keeping it real for those unfortunate folks that don't know how good a real steak house can be.

Golden steer is probably the oldest steak house in Vegas. It is in a strip mall very near the only crazy horse two club on Sahara. Very good food, super cool only Vegas vibe inside, very pricey but what isn’t lately, but nearly impossible to get a reservation on short notice. Expect a 3 week or more lead time required.
You expect mobsters in every second booth and they probably were at one time, the place is that old. There is story that one of the mob bosses had a secret escape door built in the back so he could vanish when the feds showed up looking for him.

I go a couple times a year for the 12 ounce filet. Sometimes you catch a celebrity or two dining in.

It's not upscale and the quality doesn't compare to high end steakhouses. 2 can easily dine for under $200. It's famous because Sinatra and Dean Martin were regulars. They have their names inscribed by their booths. Old photos and everything.

As for lugers. There will be one in Vegas next year.like the golden steer. Lugers lives off it's past reputation....

My picks in Vegas are:

THE steak at circus circus - don’t laugh the Robb Report once named it the 2nd best in all of Vegas

Herbs and Rye

I’m going next week and am going to NoMad and Partage this time around.

Bavette is a good spot too

The circus circus steakhouse is good.

Herbs and rye has a half price late night menu.

Partage is overrated.

Nomad is overpriced for what it is. Mgm doesn't tend to have good food in general.

Goldem Steer isn't bad, probably average for high end steakhouse. When you're at this end of the spectrum there ratings are purely subjective. Golden Steer gets rep because it's an old school institution as mentioned up thread. It would be like going to Musso and Frank in LA. From what I've been told, these places with nostalgia stick with what got them there, but raise prices accordingly. So, to many patrons, it harkens back to a time they fondly remember. FWIW, I think Prime at Bellagio is best, despite it being touristy. (Another reason I can't live in Vegas full time: I would hit risk of ruin on the tables, fall in love with a stripper, and get a heart attack from eating so much steak).

I was looking on Google and there's a TON of steakhouses in Vegas - FWIW Golden Steer is rated a 4.6 - there are several with a 4.7 - and one with a 4.8 (a Brazilian steakhouse called Galpao).

Personally. If someone wants old vegas id reccommed Hugo's cellar.

For an affordable experience. The broiler.

I like Flemings and Voodoo Steak.
