I am sick once again. I counted last night and I have been sick at least 8 times in the past 15 months. Probably more but I can’t remember. Three of those times were from my COVID shots. Why on earth do I keep getting sick? To my knowledge I haven’t even gotten COVID yet (always have tested negative including this past weekend). I know it’s highly likely I got it at some point and didn’t know it.

I went from almost 2 years at the start of COVID of never being sick once to this. The weather has been wacky the past 8 months so that could be destroying my allergies (my theory on why I’m sick now). Has wearing a mask for almost 2 years has weakened my immune system? Am I just being exposed more since I’m traveling more now and around a lot more people?

For reference pre-COVID I would usually get sick twice a year, in the fall and usually around January-February when it’s really cold. Now I’m averaging about once every seven weeks!!!

Thanks Scrub.

I was just thinking WTF!?!? I’m a healthy guy even though Gamma says I eat at McDonalds too much…

I really think all this traveling around after wearing a mask so long has temporarily messed up my immune system tolerance - what like to get others opinions but I’m not listening to any conspiracy bullshit.

I had heard that flu numbers had been lower while the mask mandates were in place, so it’s possible that all the mask wearing weakened our immune response to flu and other common colds.

Lack of SCing leads to lowering of stripper-antibodies which are among the most powerful antibodies - it's called following the science

Wearing a mask in the winter has been very common in many Asian countries for a long time. I find it hard to believe that it would weaken your immune system alone.

Age/excercise level/sun and vitamin intake/diet changes....who knows. I'd say to talk to your doctor for further screening. Thats a lot of time being sick (at least to me).

I'm with Papi. If being exposed to germs revs up your immune system, going to the strip club is like training for olympic weightlifting. Just surviving sitting on those filthy chairs is a level of immune system prowess

Hopefully you will feel better soon.

My wild guess would be that your immunities may have dropped a bit - while you were at home (and wearing a mask)?

If you are getting out more now - and are unmasked - is it possibly your immune system taking the hit and growing stronger (through the recovery process)?

Definitely due to the lockdowns our immune systems took a break and the circulation of many viruses were dampened. Once things opened up and people got out and kids went to school, those viruses started circulating again to those who haven’t had those bugs for a while.

I have young children who brought home every virus that the kids had at school. I was sick for two months straight with a different virtue during both April and May. So glad school let out and I am sick free. They say it takes about 9 months or so to strengthen the immune system. Fight it out, as I had to stop drinking alcohol and coffee.

Have your Vitamin-D levels checked - Vitamin-D is very important and many people are low w/o knowing it; even more so due to the lockdowns.

Doctors often don't check for Vitamin-D especially in young-people bc they assume young people are active and outside.

You should actually get a very-comprehensive blood-work done that looks at everything including different vitamin and hormone levels which is often not measured with many yearly-physicals.

^ I actually went to a cardiologist about 9 months ago and he did a very comprehensive blood-test that looked at stuff my yearly-physicals did not and that is when I found out my Vitamin-D levels were way low (at 11 where min is 30 and preferably 50+)

so seeing a stripper or two a week, maintain sufficient levels of vitamin d in your system, and an apple a day will help your immune system rid of viral ailments. i can dig that.

+1 on the vitamin D. I would doubt that explains everything but it might explain some of it. I was going through a similar thing about 6 years ago. The doc checked my vitamin D levels and it was just as Papi described. Again, it’s not a magical answer but it seemed to help when I got that number better.

It is possible to get COVID multiple times. Unless you are getting tested you don't really know. But the most important thing, the cure, is sleep.

^^ yiu come back to the library after the Juneteenth 3 day holiday weekend to post this useless information, SJG? By the way, how did that lawsuit against General Motors turn out for you, SJG? You probably would have won if the judges weren’t such racists.

I just tested positive for covid yesterday. This is second time I've gotten it. First was about the same time last year. Luckily for me the symptoms are more like flu than anything else. I did lose my sense of taste last time but not this time though.

That sucks. Not sure I would include the 3 vaccine shots in the count given it's kind of self imposed.

Add more cowbell to your diet - you gotta have more cowbell - if you got a fever; the only prescription is ... more cowbell

I take Zinc, D3, E, and a Multi for Vitamin supplements.

To help with my workouts (Nitric Oxide boost) I add in L-Carnitine and L-Citrulline which are amino acids.

I have also recently started a CBD capsule it does make a difference in my recovery and pain levels... sleep better too.

Sleep, drink more water than you think you need (your weight in oz. at least) and easy on the alcohol.

Feel better Shai, LB300

PS: J&J vaccine last March; Pfizer booster in October; caught COVID at Xmas..... mildest headcold I ever had; lasted 3 days; no aches, pains... nothing.

Getting old is the best defense against colds

I can’t remember the last time I had a cold. When you get to be a certain age I think one builds up natural immunity to just about every big put there. And I’m pretty goddam old

When I start feeling a bit rundown I take one of the EmergenC vitamin-C packets; sometimes for multiple-days; and it seems to help but hard to know for sure if it did anything

Thanks for the well wishes everyone…

Bulk answers to lots of questions above…

  1. SJG mentioned COVID tests, I’ve had so many I’ve lost count. My wife works in a building with almost 1,000 people daily so we both have had tons of COVID test kits lying around and have had several tests “professionally” and on our own. We always have tested negative which we always found suspect.

  2. As for getting sick during COVID shots yes that was self imposed but on the 3rd shot I didn’t feel “normal” until about 3 weeks passed. I got Moderna every time and a lot of my friend that got Moderna were also very sick, we’re all under 45, where as many older people I know that got Moderna didn’t get sick.

  3. I’m active, I average 5 miles a day walking during work, go for a walk just about every night and am back to playing basketball 2 nights a week and swimming 1 day a week. I’m not as buff as Cashman but I’m close.

  4. I will check out being low on vitamin D, I also think a big part of this is I’ve developed allergies the older I have gotten. Same thing happened to my grandfather when he was younger.

Vit D is vital and almost everyone is low. Yes immune systems weakened during lockdown. Best guess is combo of stress and lessened exposure. For example RSV and flu are not following normal patterns and they think it's due to interrupted social contact

I've heard of a lot of people getting sick lately - looks like there's something going-around - could be part allergy-season; perhaps Covid and many people don't know it; or just a bad flu-like virus

So no joke, but if you like eating mushrooms, put them in the sun for a few hours [up to 6 hours] and they become packed full of vitamin D2. Not as good as vitamin D3 from supplements or consuming animal skin, but still a great source for vitamin D.

I’ve personally known more people who’ve gotten sick lately than any time in the last few years. Some were mild covid. Others apparently not.

AFAIK the best way to get Vitamin-D is to be out in the sun a bit - AFAIK one does not have to be in the sun that long, unless it's cloudy and overcast, to get a good amount of Vitamin-D (I think your skin synthesizes the sunlight into Vitamin-D) - if one lives in a cloudy climate then a high-dose Vitamin-D supplement (typically a small green pill that is by prescription) often does the trick
