I was wondering how the border crossings are? Long wait? I am heading to SD for a weekend in a couple weeks and really don't want to mess with long lines to get back! I would go Friday around noon and return a few hours later. Any info is appreciated.
Eddo - Greenbeans and I crossed mexico into the USA . from the time we got in line, to the time we were out of customs were about 45 minutes total. very quick for us on a Wednesday at 2:20 pm. Not sure this is the norm, but there is a website that gives you any given day , time and the ETA. dont have it on hand though.
Going into Mexico is usually not the problem, although they are stopping more gringos to buy a visa.
Coming back is the issue. Depends upon the day and time.
Easy to get in and honestly I just asked for the $30 visa this time as I was tired of making excuses and being hassled. Crossing was surprisingly short today, Wednesday around 4:15. Looked to be about 30 min. No wait ever with Sentri
Rumor from a Canadian government source (the prime minister) is that the Canadian border will open early august for vaccinated US tourists. This will immediately trigger opening of the US Mexico border.
Assuming LA county surge doesn’t morph out of control by then. Sigh.
the Mexican border is open. i’ve already crossed it probably 40 times or more since this Covid shit.
1. have passport.
2. get the FMM filled out. do this before crossing and print it out. maximum seven days. crossing at El chaparral (san ysidro)
3. get FMM stamped by the Mexican agent.
(do this right and it should not cost you $30)
4. take zona shuttle or uber or taxi. pay absolutely $5 tops for the ride.
5. remember that the tj policea are not there to help you.
6. enjoy zona norte!
