He probably should have tried TE from the beginning of his NFL career. He's a great athlete. Just wasn't an NFL QB. Very few guys are.

He runs a 4.7 40. He’s a good athlete. He was never a great athlete. This is a publicity stunt. It apparently worked, because we’re talking about it.

If he can throw some blocks and catch a ball within 15 feet of the throw he’ll be just fine.

If you look back the past decade most (not all, most) Super Bowl winning teams had a TE that contributed significantly, and they’re very helpful to quarterbacks who aren’t very mobile (think Tom Brady).

The guy is 34 years old, a good but not incredible athlete and has never endured the type of physical abuse that a TE takes in the league. I agree with everything that Mark said - this is a silly publicity stunt. That and maybe Urban Meyer has a soft spot for Tebow, who Meyer coached in college.

Also, he hasn’t played football in 8 years. Let’s get real.

Cmon they’ll bring him in for 3rd and 2 twice a game or some end zone plays and that’s about it.

Tebow's honey would have easily won miss universe had she been competing this year. Very fine.
For that reason alone he deserves to be in the NFL.

Dude is married to a former Miss Universe. Who cares if he runs a 4.7 and can’t throw. He’s married to a former Miss Universe. If he’s still a virgin, then he’s definitely gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Damn I forgot he got married!

Yeah, he was never a great athlete; just a guy that was super driven and gave more effort than almost anyone on the field - plus @Florida he had talent around him better than 95% of the teams he played against (and he had one of the best college football coaches of all time) - and that 4.7 40 may be what he ran at the combine coming out of college.

Anything can happen but the consensus seems to be he won't be productive and likely won't be involved in many plays.

NFL good old boy system at it's finest.

@Jimmy: Tebow's combine time was over a decade ago, when he was in his early 20s instead of pushing 34. he's also a few inches shorter than the prototypical tight end.

But I disagree about this killing the Jags locker room. By August this will be a tempest in a teapot. Everyone is excited about having Trevor Lawrence at the QB spot.

NFL sucks

That’s correct Rick. I was posting the 40 times in response to the half dozen or so posts saying that a 4.7 was merely a good athlete and somehow disqualified Tebow from the position. Travis Kelce’s 40 time is 4.61 and I hear he’s pretty good. The jags have at least 6 TE’s on the current roster. They all suck so maybe Tebow has a minuscule chance of making the team but he’ll likely be cut. His contract isn’t guaranteed. All this really amounts to is Urban Meyer giving him a tryout. BFD. The Jags have Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne. That’s way more exciting than the Skip Bayless type idiots railing about Tebow.

They have nothing to lose by bringing him in. Local guy,Heisman winner, 2X National Champion winner at Florida. One of the greatest college players ever (player not necessarily QB), good guy for clubhouse. Worst case they sell a bunch of jerseys and he doesn't make the team, they make money.

If this doesn’t work out, maybe he could be a heart surgeon. Sure, he has no experience, but he’s got a great attitude and 15 years ago he was a good college quarterback.

He’s just a kid trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. Plus, maybe Kaepernick can sign with the Jags as a safety, Bo Jackson tries hockey and every celebrity in Southern California runs for Governor.

Tim Tebow has the top 5 best-selling items in NFL online shop New Jaguar No. 85 jersey ahead of Tom Brady, Trevor Lawrence

ACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One day back in the NFL and Tim Tebow has the best-selling jersey in the NFL, News 6 partner WJXT-TV reported.

The top five items on NFLShop.com are all Tebow’s No. 85 Jaguars jerseys. Tebow signed a one-year contract with the Jaguars on Thursday morning, making his conversion from quarterback to tight end complete.

Men’s and women’s black Jaguars Tebow jerseys were listed for sale at $119.99 and held the top two spots in sales. Tebow 00 T-shirts were $34.99 and listed third and fourth in sales. Youth Tebow jerseys were $34.99 and fifth.

If you can make them money a team will find a way.

McNulty’s right - you don’t have to be a speed merchant to be a good tight end. Hands, heart and brains mean a lot. And you have to have the ability and desire to block. But he is a little old.

Considering they can only have 53 player on the team, how productive can he be?

He's getting old.

Why do people even care anymore?

Bet he doesn't even play in half the games this year. Given his age, time away from football and learning a new position, it may even be a challenge to make it out of preseason.

I was impressed by how he did in the minors I’ll give minors. Very tough to take all that time off and make it to AAA. He was bad there but to get there was really impressive.
