"Theft of services".

When it comes to strip-club etiquette, there are many rules that should not be breached lest ye get escorted from the premises. Some are so basic that they needn’t be spoken aloud, though; they’re inherently understood.

This story is about the latter. Namely, that the customer is required to pay for services rendered when asked to do so. Often, this happens before said services are provided, but sometimes, the fiduciary exchange does not occur until afterwards.

Which brings us to Cheerleaders Gentleman’s Club in Gloucester City, Camden County. If this establishment (but not its location) rings a bell, it’s because its same-named sister club is located about five miles west across the Walt Whitman Bridge in South Philly.

It was still the first half of the Eagles/Saints game at 5:18 p.m. on November 18 when Gloucester City Patrolman Ben McKinney responded to the club for – per police reports provided online by his department – a “theft of services complaint.”

Turned out that a 45-year-old Clementon man found himself in the precarious position of facing a $150 bill for six lap dances without adequate funding to cover this bill.

“The male was found to have only $11.00 on his person,” read the report about this sordid mess. “The management of the club was informed of their options and no criminal charges have been filed. The male is no longer welcome at the club.”

The man's name was not released as he wasn't formally charged with any crime. We’re guessing he had no friends willing to kick in a few bucks, or an ATM card with access to an account with legal tender to hand to his lap-dance provider.

We’ll likely never know more details – songs playing during his lap dances, his demeanor, etc. – as officials at Cheerleaders didn’t respond to requests for comment. (Were you there? By all means, drop a line as we'd like to know more about it. Your anonymity will be protected.)

Lt. Stephen Burkhardt, spokesman for the Gloucester City Police Department, noted that calls like this are rare for the location.

"We actually field very few calls at this establishment in general, and I don’t recall ever having a theft of services complaint such as this one,” he said. “My impression is that a combination of intoxication and getting caught up in all the excitement, coupled with not being required to pay up front, led to his lapse in judgment.”

Burkhardt noted that there was a happy-ish ending to this tale, at least from a moral and/or make-good-on-obligations perspective.

“He did offer to return the following day to pay the bill," Burkhardt shared. "However, we haven’t heard if he did so.”

First thing that came to my mind was the PL refusing to pay bc he felt ROBed, but if he only had $11 on him then yeah he shouldn't be getting dances

Stupid, he should have just excused himself to the restroom and left the club. Or better yet not go if he doesn't have the money

Prepaying for dances is what any smart stripper requests unless its a known customer.

Prepay can hurt a dancer's biz - most seasoned SCers are probably not down w/ prepay - and even non-seasoned SCers are often wary of prepaying either b/c they got burned once b/f or they just have a bad intuition about-it - in my personal case prepay is a deal-breaker even for dances - I can understand a dancer's genuine concern w.r.t. getting ripped-off, but the best I'll do is pay her after each dance/song - more often than not my few prepay experiences have been bad either b/c she was a ROB or just a bad dancer.

I think experienced dancers know they will lose out more by demanding prepayment vs the once in a while douche that rips them off, IMO

IME it's often the inexperienced, or bad dancers, that want/demand prepayment

I've pre-paid if it's a low going rate compared to what I believe the average for the place is. Seems like the timidity or inexperience of the girl plays more into it and her aptitude about how not to get ripped off. The dancers with a bit more experience and confidence seem to be able to negotiate beforehand but not expect a payment until after because the are confident enough to pull it out of the guy one way or another if they get stiffed at pay time.

Its no different than paying for private or semi private dances. A dancer can tactfully ask a guy how many dances he wants and then just ask for the money and tell him she'll start on the next song, or offer him a free dance depending on how many he gets.

I don't like getting locked into 'X' dances ahead of time - what if her dances suck - I go song-by-song 99% of the time unless there is a good-discount to committing to more than one-song ahead of time and even then I don't like committing too-much $$$ to any one dancer mainly b/c of my like for variety - if I was into faves or liked sticking to just one dancer during my visit, I'd be more apt to committing resource$ prior to services being-rendered but that's not my M.O. - just like prepay is deal-breaker for me, a dancer trying to lock me into 'X' dances is often a turnoff

Better not to let things unfold so that you are presented with a bill you were not expecting. Better to drive the interaction with the girl yourself.

There's no girl in the world worth pre-paying the first time you see her. I'd even argue against paying per song because that creates a situation that could be very expensive for the PL; I feel that a stripper should only be paid one time per customer. They can conduct their business and then the stripper gets paid at the end.

On the other hand, where the PL pays up front, the stripper can pocket his money and just...walk...away... and there's nothing that the PL can do about it. The stripper is an independent contractor and once the money is in her control, there's no way to get it back from her if she doesn't want to give it back. You can't force her to dance or get naked or even continue sitting with you. The money is gone and spent and if you want to get the stripper to do something, you have to offer her more, and pay her again after additional services are rendered. YOU SHOULD ASSUME THAT ANY MONEY YOU GIVE TO A STRIPPER WILL ONLY PAY FOR WHAT'S HAPPENED IN THE PAST. Most strippers are not like this and will conduct business in a way that's beneficial for both parties, but they do have the option to screw you over with very little consequence.

I understand the risk that paying at the end puts on a stripper, but I feel strippers should be the one to bear that risk. Both parties want the transaction to go well but the stripper has more to lose if it doesn't happen. If the PL doesn't get any dances then he gets blue balls, which can be uncomfortable but he'll eventually manage and get over the loss of the transaction. If the stripper can't sell any dances, maybe she struggles to pay her rent for that month or feed herself or her child. Because she has more to lose by not doing business with the PL, she therefore has more to gain when the transaction happens. Because she is getting more out of the arrangement han we are, I feel that she should be the one to bear the risk of a failed transaction.

there would be no problem if frikin looser PLs would pay the agreed price. it should be understood. a basic agreement.
$ per song.
or $ per 15 (or 30) minutes.
plus tip if necessary.

You want looser PLs to pay the agreed price? How about the tighter ones?
