CLEVELAND, Ohio — A British lawyer is charged with sexual assault in an attack on a dancer from a strip club in the Flats and the attempted sexual assault of a second stripper, according to court documents.
Andrew Leppard, 50, of Bristol, England, is charged with rape. He is being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on $10,000 bond after his first court appearance on Wednesday.
The incident happened about 2 a.m. Monday at Christie’s Cabaret strip club on Main Street in the West Bank of the Flats.
Leppard was at the club with two friends and was “highly intoxicated,” according to police reports. One of the men asked a dancer to give Leppard a dance, according to police reports.
The 20-year-old woman gave Leppard a dance. Leppard, however, sexually assaulted her during the dance, according to court records.
The woman told police she moved away from Leppard and stood next to another dancer because she was afraid Leppard would attack her again, according to police reports.
Another 20-year-old dancer told police that Leppard tried to sexually assault her earlier in the night and a third told police that Leppard inappropriately touched her after she repeatedly told him to stop, according to court records.
Club security kicked Leppard and his two friends out of the bar. While the guards were escorting them out, Leppard repeatedly threatened to “knock out” the three women, according to police reports.
Officers arrested Leppard, who shouted that he would “kill our country” and that he owned a law firm.
Police notified the United Kingdom’s consulate of Leppard’s arrest, police reports say.
A man who identified himself as a manger for Christie’s declined to comment.
