Another Newbie to TJ

You all may as well apply for sainthood because you've inspired me to travel to paradise. In all seriousness though, I just booked my flight for the 16th-18th, and I'd appreciate any advice you might be willing to share. I'm pretty young, Mexican, Speak Spanish, and I'm hoping to keep my budget under $1,000 (having already paid airfare). I just reserved the single room at Cascadas for Friday and the Master Suite for Saturday, and I plan to get the VIP card since I plan to go back in a few months if this works out ($222 down=$778). I arrive in SAN at around 11pm, so I will have to get an uber to the border $30, plus $30 to get back, and I'm hoping to keep a safe $50 food budget ($110 down=$668). With the $668 I plan to get really drunk on Friday at HK and just treat the place as a strip club to enjoy myself and maybe take one girl arriba to fall asleep in a really good mood, and on Saturday I'll try to get 2-3 paraditas and as many bar girls as I can handle, maybe venturing into Adelitas, Tropical, and Chavelas, also possibly picking up a viagra or two just to get my money's worth witht the girls. Does this seem doable? I will also have around $400 contingency on my card just in case, but the whole point of reading up on this site and doing research elsewhere is to keep my budget while enjoying myself as much as I can. A few other questions: Is the trolley cheaper than Uber if I take a Taxi to the nearest terminal, does it run past 11pm (when I get into San Diego)? How long is the wait time on a Sunday Morning? My flight back home is at 3pm, so I plan to leave the hotel around 10am, maybe 11am if you all think it's safe; I might get one more girl in the morning if I have the funds Sunday morning. I also plan on exchanging for pesos and pass off as just a Mexican guy instead of an American with the $668 I reserved for whoring since it seems to me I could negotiate better that way, which would be $11,356 pesos at a conservative 17 pesos to a dollar at an average of $1,300 pesos per girl works out to nearly 9 girls, say 6 taking into account drinks and fichas, does that make my budge seem more reasonable or is this too much math and hassle for a trip you might take? I'm trying to play this all smart, but obviously I'm expecting the unexpected with how much I've read. Lastly, anyone want to meet up there? Again, I do speak Spanish, so I should be a decent first timer at least. If you're a gringo I can tell the girls you're my rich German uncle with a huge 8=====D to get you a better deal lol. I'm sure some of you could make do with a Spanish Speaker. Thanks for the feedback.

    Your budget is realistic, maybe even generous. So you've budgeted for six to nine "arribas" in about 36 hours. Not sure I could do that even in my 20's but hey, I didn't discover Hong Kong until I was in my 50's, so who knows. For a while, I was a member of TJAmigos, a very helpful web site devoted to Tijuana. They started charging an access fee and I don't travel to TJ often enough so I did not upgrade to a 19.95 membership. It sounds like you're a bit of a researcher and planner so that web site might be worth the investment. I typically rent a car, park near the border, walk into Mexico and taxi to the club. By all accounts, the trolley is the most economical way to travel to the border from San Diego but, as you note, it does not run all night long so double check the schedule. Also, the wait to cross back into the US can be long. If not mistaken, there is a web site that provide guidance on the wait times to cross into the US; maybe one of the frequent visitors to TJ can provide some guidance. Have fun and post a review.

    The trolley will be cheaper than Uber. Take the 992 Bus from the airport to the Blue Line. Here is the schedule. [view link] Don't waste your time in Chaveles. Adelitas is OK, but you can't take a girl from there to your hotel room. They have their own. Don't get drunk. You might do something stupid. Street tacos are $1.25. And are GOOD ! As long as you don't get too generous with the girls, you should do fine with your budget. Have fun. I wish I could join you.

    Electron, thanks thanks for the advice and reassurance, I may do TJamigos. Nemesis, bc my anaconda don’t want none. Warrior, any sense on the price difference? Do you think uber might be worth it just for safety and convenience.

    Bus ride is $2. Trolley is $5. Cross the border and the taxi to HK is $5. It's very safe, but you need to check the schedule if you are coming in late. On flag's point, take your own condoms. Take a box. :-)

    You can buy condoms in Mexico if you don’t want to bring them across. They have plenty of pharmacies. When you check in they will take a cash deposit. I paid $50 for a master suite a few months ago, but I’ve heard others have paid different amounts. It might be based on the room or day of the week. You’ll get that back, but not till you’re ready to leave. I would really advise against using your plastic. Since you’re flying in you don’t have much choice, but I don’t even take mine with me. Customs and Border Patrol have an app for border wait times. Give yourself plenty of time.

    Any reason I shouldn’t just take condoms? Does border patrol even check you on the way in to mexico?

    Border patrol didn't check me. The Mexican authorities did but barely. They looked at my passport, had me fill out a small form and done. Then you continue to bag check. All I did was put my bag on a scanner machine like the airport. It went through and I grabbed it and kept on walking. 3 people in line total. No one was monitoring the screen, no one! It was weird. I could have entered Mexico with anything. That's it. Super easy. Went over around 5ish on President's day Monday. Coming back was just as easy! I did cross over on the new bridge by the shops, west side of I-5. Coming back I crossed at the old crossing on the east side of the I-5.

    No reason not to take condoms. Even if they check you on the way in, it's not like condoms are contraband. It's also not like they would never have seen them before. FWIW, I have always taken condoms into Tijuana -- and have returned with fewer than I came in with. lol

    El Huachinango; ‘beer goggles’ do exist. Do not drink, you don't want end up going arriba with a 6 instead of a 9. Even worse you might end up not remembering the experience. You are going to another county, a new place, and it has a potential for problems, dangerous situations, you want to be stone cold sober to deal with any situation god or bad. You don't need to drink to relax and enjoy the experience, just be yourself, be focus on what you are looking for. It seems to me that you have done your homework, and since you speak Spanish you have it made. Do not try to pass yourself as a local, I am sure the girls would be most interested if you are a nice good American. Just be polite and make sure you are treated with respect as a good customer. Be friendly, but be clear about who you want and go for her. Girls like men that know what they want and get it. Again just behave like a man that knows what he wants. Be 100% safe (all sex covered) and you will be fine. Please let us know about your experience will all the details. Have a good safe enjoyable trip.

    Don't make too huge a production of-it trying to break everything down to the last-penny - just go w/ the flow and enjoy for what it is - being your first time you should try to get your bearings and use it as a learning opportunity since you plan on heading back on a future trip(s). Getting drunk in strip-clubs is generally not a good idea let alone one in Mexico. And being a weekend visit it'll probably be a sausage fest at places like HK meaning you may need to be a bit more on your game and be a bit more proactive in order to end up with the girl(s) you want.

    Thanks for the advice, everyone. Most of it is really helpful. Links aren't of much help because I've read all that stuff, and I'm only looking for advice from people who have been there. I think I have things pretty much covered though, will report back.

    I think it cannot be said enough to not drink in excess. Keep your wits about you. Although Tijuana is safer than it used to be, cartels are still running shit down there.

    I’ve got no insightful advice - as I’ve never been to TJ. However, I’d recommend you bring your own supply of condoms. You can purchase them in advance - and you can buy a trusted brand that you find comfortable. Also, I’d recommend you not drink to the point of getting drunk. It can be sketchy being out of certain clubs at night. I’m sure the local thieves know how to spot a drunk tourist. Since you are bringing a good amount of cash - it’s best to be safe.
