College Football Playoff Predictions???

shailynnThey never tell you what you need to know.
Well since we are to November, who are the 3 teams that wind up in the playoffs with ‘Bama?
Really can’t even predict it yet, so many 1 loss teams.
I guess a better question would be which teams are likely to have another loss before their conference championship games?
Comments
last commentGA who will have 1 loss to Alabama.
TCU
Clemson/Ohio State
Takes more than wins.
^^^^ they will be lucky to finish .500 - but don't you worry, they finally have a real coach and I expect they'll have a better record next year.
Georgia will get tossed with their one loss to Bama, not fair but likely.
Bama
Big Ten Champ
Spots 3 & 4 will be 2 of these three:
Big 12 Champ (if their first ever playoff game is legitimate and not a farce)
Notre Dame
ACC Champ
No way! Just like Christmas music before Thanksgiving, I forbid talk about playoffs before turkey day. It's a fools errand.
Rooting for Wisconsin by the way. Don't see it happening, however.
Bama after they beat GA
ND after they run the table
Ohio State after they run the table including WI
Clemson if they beat NC State and run the table
or
We will know a lot more in 30 hours: OSU @ IA, Clem @ NCST, OK @ OKST
Prediction: the only teams (that matter) with 1 loss of fewer in two weeks will be: ALA, GA, WI, OSU, ND, VT.
Too early to start making predictions imo. History has shown there is too much football left to know. Injuries and upsets will be plentiful That's my prediction :-)
If they all can win out i think it will be.
Bama
ND
Clemson and
Oklahoma
But they all still have hurdles to get over.
Yesterday's results show how unpredictable this can be.
thats the fun though isn't it? No reason for having sports radio if you can't go through hypotheticals.
The U beats nd Saturday night. A lot gets turned upside down. If not, clarifies not much.
Yep. GO CANES!!
Ohio State shit the bed. Revision # 1:
Winner Alabama v Georgia
Notre Dame
Loser Alabama v Georgia
Winner Clemson v Miami
Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson??
No way, Big Ten has the largest viewing audience so they will definitely try to have one of those teams in the final four.
Are we talking who deserves it or who will get it?
I’ve been watching more college football since this kneeling shit took hold in the nfl.
I’m thinking ND has a good shot at one of the 3 spots.
My alma mater won’t be in there - since they don’t have a team - so I have to live vicariously.
Only chance Big Ten has is 13-0 WI and even then they need an upset in top 4.
2-loss MSU, OSU and PSU cancel each other out.
PAC 12 is out - even 1-loss WASH below top 4 no matter what.
Big 12 could sneak in with 1-loss OK or TCU, but would need help with upset in top 4.
I just think it's ludicrous that you could get a shot at the National Championship if you can't even win your own conference. While teams that have won a conference title get left out.
joc,
So ND is out, in your opinion?
Yes, just on principle and hatred. Fuck ND.
flag,
I can agree with that, but I was wondering about joc's thoughts.
Is ND still independent? Are there any other major programs that are still independent?
If they're the only one left, then yeah, they should just pick a conference and play by the same system everyone else does. Quit expecting special treatment just cause you're the only one that wants to be different.
If there's only going to be 4 teams, then it should be the 4 best conference champions.
joc,
I believe nd has a loose tie-in with the ACC, but don't know for sure, but they are not IN the conference. Like many conferences, nd isn't exactly close to the Atlantic coast. :)
There are really only 3 conferences in football ADV, NFL, and SEC..... the others are just fleas fighting over who owns the dawg.
AFC not ADV, my investment work showed up in my spell check lol
Top SEC teams shouldn't get credit for wins against Vandy, Kentucky, SC, MSU, Ole Miss, Missouri. These days, you can even throw Knoxville Farming School, Texas A&M, and Florida into that group. Sure, they're good every now and then, but they really shouldn't be adding anything to the "strength of schedule" of other SEC teams. LSU is on hard times now, too. Auburn is only really good once every ten years when their "Buy a Quarterback" savings fund has matured.
I don't think we'll see as many as 6 really good teams, and the resulting parity and more frequent conf champs with 2 or 3 loss records, in the SEC again until Saban retires, since the best coaches are not going to want to come in and compete against him. Unless they are Alabama assistants, like at UGA, who will take an SEC job cause they know they're not getting Saban's any time soon. We will all know Saban is getting close to retiring when Bama assistants start turning down HC jobs in other places.
Notre Dame is in the ACC for all sports except football. 5 of 12 ND football games this fall are against ACC opponents.
BTW, I believe the CFP mandate is to select the 4 best teams in the nation without regard to conference affiliation. For example, if the best PAC 12 team is perceived to be worse than the 2nd best ACC or SEC team -- tough shit -- you're out.
ND is in the conversation because they beat excellent Big 10 (MSU), ACC (NCST) and PAC 12 (USC) teams by considerable margins. Georgia has defeated every team they played by 14+ points (except ND, a 1-point win).
IF ND beats Miami this Saturday, it is all over. They are deservedly the 2-seed.
The only other solution would be a three-week tournament with 8 teams -- the Power five champs get automatic births and the committee chooses 3 at-large teams and controls the rankings 1-8. First round games would be 4 of the second-tier bowls around December 24 or so, thus eliminating 8 crappy 6-6 teams from bowl play. C'mon, does the 4th place MAC team really deserve a bowl??
Texas Bowl (Houston), Holiday Bowl (San Diego), Alamo Bowl (San Antonio) and Camping World (Orlando) would work. All pay around $6 M. All warm weather/dome locations. These are the highest paying of the second-tier non-New Years bowls. Only have to move the dates around a little. I would definitely watch a quarterfinal Alamo Bowl featuring Oklahoma vs USC with the right to play in a semi-final on the line!
You're right about the mandate, but too much of the ranking is based on record. An undefeated conf champion in one conference is not necessarily better than a 2 loss conf champion from another.
Being undefeated in the SEC right now isn't saying as much as it used to.
Also, running up the score on weak opponents shouldn't be helping anyone.
You need 7 games to play a 8 team tournament. The top 7 "bowls" rotate on who gets the quarters, semis, and final. Play the quarters on 2nd to last Sat in Dec, the Semis on last Sat in Dec, and for the love of Jesus h fucking Christ, put the final on either the first or 2nd sat in January. College football is a SATURDAY sport, why the hell is the championship on a Monday night?
Keep maybe 5 or 6 other bowls. The rest need to be shuttered. Lots of things would change in CFB if it took 8 wins, or even 9 wins, to get in a bowl.
There already is a 12 game playoff system before the bowls. Called the regular season. There is no way to play it from that point to where there would be no qualms about the final #1.
Got to be some computer geek out there that could take ALL the college football teams and season game results (including bowls), toss them into a program, and spit out the "best" team. Wouldn't mean a damn thing, but the results could be entertaining.
"There already is a 12 game playoff system before the bowls. Called the regular season."
My point exactly. If you don't finish the regular season as CHAMPION of something, why should you get a chance at being the national champion.
Just like SCs, it's all about the $
Wisconsin has play no ranked teams and is #6. Miami just beat the #13 ranked team and are #7. Yeah, they didn't slaughter other teams. QB with one game under his belt. Lost a top RB. So much for the 12 game play offs.
No big deal. They'll always be hated till enough time passes and no one remembers when they were really on the top of college ball for so long.
I previously said, "I believe nd has a loose tie-in with the ACC, but don't know for sure, but they are not IN the conference.".
Looked it up and here it is, "The conference announced an extension of its football agreement with the Fighting Irish on Thursday. Notre Dame, a member of the ACC in all sports but football, will play five ACC teams every year from 2026 through ’37."
Guess they are scared.
On Wisconsin!
Just rooting for them, and knowing it is Just a dream.
Every year the rest of the country talks about how weak the SEC is.... then bowl season gets here and everyone plays out of conference and the haters shut up for about 10 months
This year may be different, but being in defeated in any major conference is a feat
Dad,
"... but being in defeated in any major conference is a feat"
Should proofread. :)
yep clubber..... Should say undefeated, Thanks
Wasn't trying to pick on you, but just a soft jab at founder to get an editor!
No problem.... that shit bugs me about auto correct.
I'd say every team except Alabama and Georgia HAVE TO win out to get in. Specifically, thinking of:
Notre Dame
Clemson
Miami
Oklahoma
TCU
Wisconsin
After Saturday, realistically, we will be down to 4 teams vying for 2 spots.
