Assumed tip

One stripclub I frequent charges $4.25 for a beer. If I put $5 on the bar most bartendars will give me .75 back. Then I can decide what amount to tip her(always more than .75).

Some will take the change and put it directly in the tip jar. If they do that I don't add to the tip since they made the call, instead of me, on the amount of the tip. Of course in each case they are costing themself.

Considering a tip can't be much less than .75 I don't understand what they are thinking when they do this.

Is this something you occassionally face and how do you handle it(on principle)?

Often times the waitress will round-up (i.e. if something is $4.25 and you give her a $10 she'll often give you $5 back) - IDK if they do this in part to not have to be dealing w/ lose change - I usually tip a buck for my drink since I either buy water or a beer; so if the drink is $4.25 I usually end-up tipping $1.75

In strip clubs, sometimes they go beyond accepted social limits. In San Francisco, high mileage places, I have had girls insist on looking into my wallet. I have had girls snatch money, $20, when I have opened my wallet.

Find good girls, see them outside. Then you don't need to go very often.

I ask what is the price of a beer and generally point out that change should have been rendered if it happens a second time I just don't tip the bartender or server who did that, let me say I generally am a generous tipper usually spending an hour or two and 4 or five beers and as long as the service was reasonable I always throw a $10.00 or $20.00 dollar bill into the kitty as a tip before i leave.

If I usually tipped a buck for a water and she rounded up thereby keeping my .75 I sure as hell wouldn't add a dollar.

    Maybe a quarter! :)

I think the higher the mileage, the higher the money grubbing.

Treat waitresses as dancers, try to get them onto your lap and to get a front room makeout session going. They are their for your carnal pleasure, just like dancer's are. If you have money, it is a man's world.

But see your girls outside the club, so you don't need to go very often.

Strip clubs don't think that they have to offer the same level of customer service that other businesses do. So they are more open about ripping you off. This is just one of many many examples.

Most guys I know tip once per visit and not once per beer. I would not be surprised if keeping the change adds up to more over the night.

Ha! Bad technique. I've trained my regular waitresses to take $3.00 for a $1.50 drink (yeah they're cheap) so I'm amused with a new one who bothers with quarters, but they ll do and I appreciate that. I'd be PISSED if they just took the quarters! Plus they'd be cheating only themselves.

Any waitress or bartender who assumes a tip gets no more business from me.

"Most guys I know tip once per visit and not once per beer."

This goes against everything I ever observed from other club goers. Some might to this but it is definitely not the rule.

An additional tip on the way out I've seen. I don't subscribe to this.

This happens to me sometimes, I just give them a buck tip as if they gave me my coin change. I don't trip over coin change.

It wasn't PP. Their beers are $3.00. It was Cheetahs.

At night @ Porthole beers I think are $5.25 but the waitress will often tell you $6

Here is something I have noticed.... Servers (waitresses, bartenders, etc) in general not even at clubs are not "trained" well.

What I mean is lets say a beer costs $5 and you give them a $20.... they will bring your change back in a $5 and $10 bills..... Are they dumb.... they need to bring the change back in a $10 bill and 5-$1's.... that way you can tip. Plus odds are you will pull another $20 out of your pocket next time for a beer... and that way you can milk more out of the customer. I know this from experience working as a bartender.

Also back on topic... if they pocket the $.075.... it is their loss... I wont tip again on principle. Because they made the choice... not ME.

People now adays think a tip is mandatory. Now again I don't want to sound cheap.... but a tip is based on service.... if it is good you get a tip.... if it is bad you don't get one. But people think that no matter what you should fork over a tip. I mean you walk into a bar, sit down, the bartender comes up and say... "what will you have" you say, "give me a beer".... They turn around and twist off a cap and hand u the beer and take your money.... Is that service worth a $1??? Again I tip pretty well.... but think of it.... They spent a total of 30 seconds interacting with you.... do they deserve a tip? If you think that is the case... then do you tip your barber? Your check out person at the grocery store?

Again I don't want to sound cheap because I do tip that $1..... but when people "expect" it is what gets me. I mean you should tip a lot more people ahead of that bartender in your daily life. Because they do a lot more interaction than that bartender.

It depends. I like to be on good terms with the person fetching my drinks, especially if its a bartender. That means I'll often overlook something like that once. If I know it was 4.25 and she doesn't attempt to give me the change, I'll tip a buck anyway. Next time, I'll ask how much it is so we both know its 4.25 or whatever. if I still don't get offered my change I'll leave her standing there waiting for a tip. If she doesn't get the hint on the third time, I'll usually move to another area to avoid her; meaning I'll go from a table to the bar or vice versa. If I'm offered the change, I never take it. Unless I have a reason not to, like she was slow and/or rude, I'll tip a buck a drink on top or more for more expensive cocktails. Once I've refused the change a few times, I won't hold it against anyone for not offering it, especially a waitress who's got to tote around quarters.

I really hate clubs that charge x.25 or .75 for shit though. .50 is annoying, but I can see how sometimes they'd want to do that. But for .25, just round one way or the other. Change that jingles doesn't belong in a club.

JS69 is right. What it really is is just that they've got you, by the short hairs so to speak. So they can bleed money out of you in lots and lots of ways.
