I'm curious about something and was wondering if anyone has any insight into this. I've noticed in a couple of Mexican cities that the strippers/prostitutes are college age girls that travel to another part of the country to work for about a month and then return home to their families, daily lives, and to go back to school. It seems like the college girls will do this maybe two or three times per year, to pay for college and their living expenses, but then live ordinary lives when they return home.
I'm curious if the friends and or family members know what they do. My guess is that their families must know, but only certain friends know. I get the sense that they try to hide what they do from as many people in their hometown as possible, to avoid any stigmas associated with stripping/prostitution. I also get the feeling that these college girls will never do this again, once they've graduated and gotten real jobs.
Part of the reason I think this is that some of the girls travel really far away from their families, even though there are much closer places in Mexico that they could do the same thing and earn just as much money. It's like they are traveling as far away as possible to do this, so they hopefully don't run into anyone from their hometown.
