Yes, this Bloch Theorem and the idea of pseudo potentials has long been a part of solid state physics. But these guys are doing more involved computations than would have previously been possible.
Notice also that this pertains entirely to crystals.
But I really do need to extend my own base of knowledge if I want to be involved in this.
