There will be a new driller working for me this winter, a specialist in deep multi-zone directional holes. I will be paying him $1650/day (10 hour day with 8 hours RT and 2 hours OT). That is $33K for each 20 day tour (these guys work a 20 on-10 off rotation).
Do the arithmetic. If this guy works a full year at this rate he will pull down $396K.
In most industries or employment endeavors, the owner/boss makes more than the workers. I bet you earn it, FA. I wouldn't work in the winter north of Calgary for a blowjob from Kate Upton.
Obama is spending trillions more than I make so I might as well enjoy whatever value I can get out of my peso dollars while people still accept it. I know I make a lot less than some but at least I'm not making a janitor's salary. However where Farmerart works, the janitor probably gets paid a lot more than me.
Corporations just claim they can't find enough skilled labor instead of raising pay here in the US and then they lobby to bring in foreign people to do the same work Americans could be doing if companies were willing to pay more for skilled labor already here. I read engineers and technology workers here in the US have had their pay degraded for decades because they are in effect competing with foreign workers because corporations claim labor shortages, then they bring in foreign workers and don't need to pay Americans or just keep their pay low.

fa,
Operative word, "work". I know little of the oil industry, but I bet he will work his ass off!

$350k/y isn't bad if you are working for the man. It's the entrepreneurs who make the real, however.

No fear. Boyfriend Justin Verlander makes $20 million per year. A paltry $350K won't get you close.

gawker: Maybe you can say that with a straight face today, but in December you'll be driving to the arctic circle when Kate calls!

Some of us make less, too -- a lot less. I'm lucky to clear $20K a year.
