Miami question

I'm heading down to Miami in three weeks for a work trip and am looking for some advice. I've read the reviews of the clubs in the area to see each place's pros and cons, but I am looking for some local information. I'll be staying at the Courtyard Miami Beach Oceanfront right on Miami Beach. I won't have a car so I am checking to see if a taxi is my only option and what might that cost ballpark? Or, is there another transportation option I should seek. I'd be looking for a traditional mixed club - seems like Tootsies might be a pretty safe option. Does that sound right or is there someplace closer/better I should check out? I welcome and appreciate any input, feedback or tips from anyone in the area or regular visitors. Thanks.

Tootsies is a very large and popular club. Evenings, especially Fr/Sat eves, will often have 100+ dancers. Most Tootsies dancers are Hispanic with a few Caucasian and even some European.

Scarlett’s in Hallandale (just north of Miami) is very popular also .

Deans gold is near the north end of Miami Beach (North Miami Beach), it is pretty upscale with a decent variety of Europeans, Caucasians, and Hispanic (no black dancers though).

WHATEVER YOU DO – do *not* go to Club Madonna in South Beach – total tourist trap – better off staying in your hotel and jerking off rather than going to that hell hole.

Transportation in Miami sucks – if you do not have a car you are pretty much screwed and taxis can be pretty expensive.

You can get a good deal by renting from Enterprise neighborhood location (renting at airport you get screwed). But if you do rent, try to rent in the city of Miami and not in Miami Beach b/c then you’ll get screwed also.

BTW - if you hang out on Ocean drive, you should see some nice eye candy and there are bars and restaurants there with sidewalk sitting for you to exercise your eyes while eating.

BTW #2 :) – Scarlett’s and Tootsies are not very far from each other in case you may want to hit both on the same day/night.

There are usually cabs parked outside of Tootsies – not sure about Scarlett’s. You could hit Tootsies first and then grab a cab from outside and hit Scarlett’s (you could even try to get the cabbie’s cell for him to pick you back up from Scarlett’s and then take you back to the hotel?).

Thanks for all of this. One quick question - when you say the cabs are expensive, do you have a ballpark of what you'd be talking about from Miami Beach to Tootsies?

For travel you could take our rapid travel Metrorail system. No wait, that doesn't go anywhere near the beach or anywhere they anyone wishes to visit. Taxi or bus. Taxi = Expensive. Bus = Slow.

Other than that Papi is pretty much right on. Some clubs do offer limo service, but you'd have to check with them.

OP: Habla Espanol? If no comprende, I'd be more concerned about finding a cabbie who speaks English, than the cost of a cab ride.

I'm not picturing exactly where your hotel is, I would guess you're looking at a ~ 12-15 mile ride, which would likely put fare north of $20 each way. I'd say a rental car would be a wash, or better. However, if adequate free beachside parking, or alcohol consumption is going to be an issue with you, then good luck with the cabs. Miami happens to be my least favorite place to hail a cab. Curious how your trip turns out.

Found this on the internet. $45 one way cab fare to Tootsies. Stripclublarry, you could use a more creditable strip clubs in your review list. I would take this chance to at least visit Tootsies.

Thank you to everyone who has pitched in with advice. I'm hoping to get a chance to check out something while I'm in Miami, but with only one night where it might be possible and the prospect of $90 in cab fare, I don't know if it'll happen. We'll see how I'm feeling when I'm there. Just don't know if that kind of cash for transportation is worth my while in upfront, non club costs.

Papi,

Pick the dude up at his hotel and show him a good evening. I'm sure he'd pop for a LD or 20. :)

It seems like OP has a bugaboo about renting a car. If cab/"minivan limo" R/T is indeed $90, I'd think one could easily rent a car for less than that. A google search should yield several options- I know there was a nearby Budget and Enterprise the last time I went to MB.

The off airport site neighborhood rentals have the advantage of avoiding those BS fees that airport sites tack on. I'm guessing the limited hours some off site places are open, or the desire to minimize a paper trail might be the hangups.

“… Papi,

Show him a good time? What kind of guy do you think I am? I’m only into older guys that ride Harleys.

@clubber:

Yeah – maybe I’ll be hospitable to the OP and take him around on his off evening.

Want the OP to meet at least one hospitable person while he is in Miami – you know there are not that many :)

I can agree on the second post, but that first one...

I don't think you want to go there! :)_

I would rent a car for two reasons: 1) cheaper than a cab and 2) I am never guaranteed the cabbie will want to puff with me, so I need my own car to get baked in before going.
