It didn't say, but I would lay 2-1 it was.
Hard to imagine that the tips could be enough to motivate a girl to work there. Maybe they were doing something besides drinking caramel macchiato's in there.
The article said it was over anger and jealousy. She was probably offering some "extra" cream and sugar to the customers.
