Strip club ordered to pay $1.75 million in fatal crash

Club Blaze has been ordered to pay $1.75 million to the family of a woman who was killed in a wrong-way crash in Douglas County in 2008, a law firm announced Tuesday.

The jury returned the verdict Thursday in DeKalb State Court against the strip club for over-serving alcohol to the man who caused the I-20 crash that killed himself and Fatima Bird, a mother of two.

Another woman was killed and another injured in the wreck.

Otis South of Mableton was driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.398 -- nearly five times the legal limit of .08, the news release said.

    I've been to that club twice. It gets very ghetto after dark.

    Good. Some of these clubs are out of line, pressing more and more alcohol on customers just to make a buck. I was kicked out of a club once because I refused to buy a fifth drink after I had already bought/consumed four.

    This is bullshit. We are all responsible for our own actions. He drank too much and then he drove. Bartenders are not fucking nannies, nor should they be expected to be such. I feel horrible for the woman who lost her life, but blaming it in on the club is just plain stupid.

    It is criminal negligence to continue serving an intoxicated person alcohol. Most states have dram shop laws. Legitimate bars that want to actually stay in business will train their staff to refuse service to people too drunk to drive and minors. There are cases where kids go to bars to drink 21 shots on their birthday, then die from poisoning. The bar agreed to furnish the kid the shots (lots of $$$$), so they are responsible.

    I wonder how many drinks does it take for a 41 year old guy to have a blood alcohol content of .398? 24 beers? I have no idea. That's an incredible level. Maybe he was drinking shots. I have no idea how much alcohol is in the shots or how fast your blood alcohol will go up with that. It's totally irresponsible to go out drinking that much and then go driving after that. I remember a case where a female had much less to drink in NC and she accidentally killed 4 teenage girls. She got life in prison or something like 35 years per girl.
