Hugh Hefner and Utah do not mix. At least that's what NBC's Salt Lake City affiliate KSL-TV is saying, as it refuses to air the network's upcoming drama series “The Playboy Club.” FOX411: ‘Real Housewife' Defends Playboy Spread. The series is set in a 1960s era Playboy Club, when the Playboy brand was reaching its peak. KSL-TV's president and CEO Mark Willes issued a statement: “The Playboy brand is known internationally. Everyone is clear what it stands for. We want to be sure everyone is clear what the KSL brand stands for, which is completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand.” FOX411: Hugh Hefner Names Playmate of the Year. The statement also said the Playboy brand was inconsistent with a community anti-pornography campaign the network was promoting. NBC responded with its own statement: “While we are disappointed with KSL's decision, we are confident that the show will find another home in the Salt Lake City market.” (What, on CBS?) FOX411: Holly Madison Mad Hefner Is Getting Married. Willes said the station will pick a different show to air Mondays at 10 pm. KSL is owned by a media company controlled by the Mormon church, and has skipped over programming in the past, including the American version of the racy British comedy “Coupling” and the 2000 animated comedy “God, the Devil and Bob.” Read more: [view link] As a side note one of our TUSCL members played a part in producing this TV show. I'v been to Salt Lake City more times than I care to remember. If you have a choice, don't go there.

"The statement also said the Playboy brand was inconsistent with a community anti-pornography campaign the network was promoting." And if there's one thing Utahans know it's their pornography. [view link]

This will be a boost for a non network affiliated TV channel. For those of you on cable/dish ( probably 100% of you) on digital over the air TV, each local TV station has anywhere from one to five additional channels. NBC will market The Playboy Club to one of those channels. One of those channels will make enough money from this to better their content.
