Investigation of possible prostitution house nets drugs, weapons arrests

Officers responding to an apartment building where prostitution complaints were common, arrested two males on possible drug charges.

Officers were familiar with an apartment building in the 3600 block of Otterbein Ave. where several complaints of prostitution and stripping have occurred. Callers complained that women often arrive at the apartment followed by several males. There were also reports that the living room had a stripper pole installed for girls to dance for money.

When police knocked on the door at about 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, a male answered the door. He told police that the apartment was his girlfriend's and let officers inside.

In the living room, which did have a metal pole in the middle of it, officers encountered two more males sitting on a couch. After calling for the girlfriend several times and getting no answer, an officer walked down the hallway and found her sitting on a mattress in a back room with no clothes on, just a sheet. A fully-clothed male was in the room with her.

Because they suspected illegal activity in the house, the officers started patting down the males in the living room. When an officer discovered that one of them had a backpack hidden under his clothing, the male subject took off running, kicking one officer then pushing another out the front door onto the porch. He continued to struggle with the officer outside before he was finally handcuffed.

All the other subjects were also placed in handcuffs and searched.

One had eight gel caps containing more than 1 gram of cocaine in his pocket. He was arrested on possible possession of drugs charges.

The male who tried to run was found to have a .45 caliber gun in his backpack and be in possession of 2.9 grams of marijuana and 2 grams of crack cocaine. He faces possible charges of possession of drugs, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, assault on two police officers, and being a felon in possession of weapon.

The female, who told officers she was glad that they arrived because she was afraid of several of the males, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. She said she did not have sex with any of the males for money. She said she stripped for money in the apartment, but only had sex with her boyfriend.

So you're saying the stripper pole in the living room is a bad idea?
