Three arrested in Fargo prostitution sting

A Fargo Police Department prostitution sting resulted in three arrests, according to a statement from the police department.

The department conducted the sting between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Super 8 Motel & Suites, 3518 Interstate Blvd in Fargo. The sting was set up to investigate males who were hiring females for sex.

Fargo Police detectives posted an advertisement in the "escort" section of www.fargo.backpage.com, advertising a 19-year-old female escort and a telephone number. Three males who called the number responded to the location and offered money to a female police confidential informant in exchange for sexual contact. They were arrested for hiring an individual to engage in sexual activity. The arrested people were: Douglas E. Duran, 54, Barnesville; Todd J. Rusch, 38, of Fargo; Mark G. Michaluk, 52, West Fargo, according to the release.

The police department release states: "Hiring an Individual to Engage in Sexual Activity is a class B-Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum penalty of 30 days imprisonment and/or up to a $1,000 fine.

"The Fargo Police Department has received recurring information about prostitutes operating at numerous hotels in Fargo. There was no current information about prostitutes operating at The Super 8 Motel & Suites; however, The Super 8 has taken the stance of cooperating with law enforcement to allow these stings to take place at their motel in an effort to deter this and other crimes."

Fargo PD requested that if the media reports the Super 8 as the location of the prostitution sting, they also report that this was a proactive decision by the Super 8 to deter criminal activity at their hotel.
