I've been asking dancers and other ladies I've met from different venues this question lately, and the answers are interesting.
The standard answer from a dancer is "when I started dancing", although one young, 23 yo dancer recently told me she had been shaving since she was 13-14.
Non-dancers are probably more interesting. A couple of single mothers have told me their daughters told them they needed to do it if they were going to get a man.
I know we've discussed our preferences on here several times and generally we older guys like some fuzz down there, while the younger guys like it totally smooth. I actually got to thinking about it after seeing the movie "The American" this weekend. There were a couple of scenes with a young Italian brunette sporting a pretty full bush and it was hot. I also find myself wondering if a hot gal I see (waitress, in a store, etc.) shaves or not.
What about it guys? Any of you wonder about that or am I just a sicko? (That's a rhetorical question.)

Actually, my thoughts generally run toward whether a woman I see has protruding labia, i.e., internal labial lips that hang out. Sometimes called beef curtains, I just love it when their large and exposed (see my avatar and this website for examples: sexylabia.com).
For as long as I can remember, I've tried to discern whether something about a woman - e.g., facial lips, hand size, etc. - would have any bearing on predicting the likelihood of protruding labia. So far, nothing seems to be a good predictor. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears because I'd love to know, or at least have a good idea, before the panties come off.

My first encounter with shaved goes all the way back to 1962. My GF and I were about ready to take it to a higher level. I rented a motel room. On the way there she confided in me that she was shaved and didn't want me to be shocked. Glad she fore warned me as I would have been shocked. She was a chorus line and ballet dancer.

Twice I've had females confront me on the subject, telling me that I prederred shaved because I wanted a little girl.

Given my profile pics, would it surprise anyone if I said, yes I do wonder, and hope for at least a little minge on the ones I'm likely to see naked? Bald was OK for a period of time, but I'm back to preferring a more natural growth now. It didn't take long to grow tired of the plucked chicken look.
As for discomfort, a dam holds back the hair as well as the more noxious little critters. It hasn't been an issue.

It seems to me that girls have always trimmed up since the invention of the skimpy bikini. I remember my 1st girlfriend keep her hair trimmed so she could wear one (trimmed up, not shaved).
If you have followed Playboy, you will see that most girls begin shaving most of it in the mid to late 90's. By this decade, its probably 75 percent or so are bare, with the other 24 percent having a landing strip or dorito chip.
95 percent of the dancers I know are bare including my favorites. No hair down there makes for great oral sex (no hairballs) and even better vaginal sex because you can see what you are getting.
Porn has helped the shaving trend because guys and girls like to have an unobstructed view of great sex.
My girlfriend is bare and I love it.

Most women shave (at least frequently, some even daily) and start with it since they are 13 - 15 yrs old.
Not only for show, to please boyfriends, but also hygienic aspects

One of my favorite dancers told me exactly that..that she had been shaving since she was 13 or 14. I think it depends on the girl's age, the younger ones start shaving early, the older ones later. As I said, a couple of older ladies I've met told me their daughters clued them into shaving.
