Goodbye Olangapo

This is the twentieth anniversary of the closing of Subic Bay Naval Base and it's adjacent, symbiotic city of hookers. Read on:

In the days following World War 2, the Cold War started. While an Iron Curtain descended on Eastern Europe, scrimmage lines also developed in Asia. A recently beaten Japan was in the process of rebuilding while a wary American military carefully watched their progress.

Just a few years later, communists took control of China. Within a year, war broke out in Korea. The United States needed a forward base to operate the Pacific fleet out of and Subic Bay in the Phillipines fit the bill.

It is a truism that where there are military bases, there are willing females that know that military pay is largely discretionary, and thus Olangapo started. By it's peak during the Vietnam War, there were over fifty thousand hookers working in Olangapo.

The hookers, known as LBFM's (Little Brown Fucking Machines) by the military, were willing to have sex for very little, compared to American hookers. The two phrases they used most often were "short time" and "long time". Short time was ten to thirty minutes and (in the 1980's) went for ten bucks. Long time (2 hours to all night) went for twenty. What affected the above was whether an aircraft carrier had just docked. A carrier had several thousand sailors and carriers were usually accompanied by half a dozen escort ships. With the prospect of renting her vagina out multiple times in a day, the LBFM would rush you in and out (pun intended).

Some sailors married LBFM's and LBFM's frequently had kids of mixed race. A number of sailors, Marines, and Airmen ducked out on their parental duties, which added to the poverty of the Phillipines, and ticked off anti American Phillipinoes.

By the late 1980's, a number of Phillipinoes had tired of the American presence in the Phillipines. Negotiations started and by 1991, the fleet was out of Subic and the Air Force had abandoned Clark Air Base. Within a few years, the Police had forced the LBFM's out of Olangapo.
