Strip Club Owner Joe Redner Running for Florida House Seat

TAMPA, Fla. -- Forget the third time, will the ninth time be a charm for strip club owner Joe Redner?

This week Redner filed to run for the District 58 state House seat currently held by Janet Cruz.

The 69-year-old, best known for owning Mons Venus, has failed in eight previous attempts to be elected to city and county office. But Redner has never run for a spot in Tallahassee and he tells 10 Connects this time be believes he can win.

"This is my district. It's something I think I can do and I think I can make a difference and I want to do it," he said.

Redner said he won't spend a lot of his own money and won't accept campaign contributions. Instead Redner said he'll rely on community forums and maybe some direct mailings to get his message out.

Cruz, who won a special election in February for the right to represent District 58, welcomes Redner's candidacy. She also believes he'll be a serious candidate.

"He is a competitor. You don't get to where Joe Redner is today if you aren't a competitor and a smart business man," Cruz said.

She added this election also needs to be about the issues and who will do the best job.

"There are very serious times and these are times when we need serious representation," she said.
