On national tour, stripper-mobile reports from Texas

Gas station clerks want to quit their jobs and ride with him, but Larry Beard just wants to get the Las Vegas strippermobile to New Orleans in time for Saturday's NFL playoff game.

"I've found this thing only goes 55, 60 (mph) tops, so it's taking longer than I expected," Beard reports via cell phone on his way out of El Paso, Texas, this afternoon.

The slow pace and Beard's misgivings about the strippermobile's performance in cold weather — and concerns about scantily clad women being exposed to the elements — forced him to alter a cross-country route he had planned to begin in Southern California.

Now instead of going up the California coast, then into Portland (where he wants strippers in the truck to dance naked) and Seattle before heading across the country to New York and down to Miami, Beard is going counter-clockwise to take advantage of the better weather in the south. He hopes to cruise north along the East Coast after the Super Bowl in Miami.

Beard, the marketing director for Déjà Vu Showgirls, also has a Web site (TheStripperCam.com) that is currently free, but he might charge a nominal fee so Internet surfers can watch the women dance as the truck ambles down Main Street, U.S.A. People who sign up for the site, Beard says, would get a text or e-mail message alerting them to when the strippermobile is full of strippers and on the go.

Beard expects the site to be up at 10 a.m. Saturday but the women won't be dancing in the truck until about 3:30 p.m. At that time he hopes to be driving the truck up and down New Orleans' Bourbon Street, where Déjà Vu has three clubs. On Sunday, he said Déjà Vu will create "it's own little parade" with the strippermobile and two more trucks with wrap-around advertising trolling the streets of New Orleans for customers.

He hopes to be in Miami for the Super Bowl on Feb. 7.

"It's a lot of fun," Beard says, adding that on his trip, he has had to turn down young women at every gas station who want to quit their jobs and go with him.

To be strippers?

"No, just to party," Beard says, chuckling.
