Getting to the promised land and BACK..... HK TJ

Greanbeans
Ké lo ké?!?!?!!
So on this last trip to HK, mid November during pandemic, I crossed San Ysidro 3 times. Tj bound Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday mornings. Back to USA evening and noon’ish on Wednesday. Every time I went to the look for the Zona Norte shuttle, the line to get back to USA was up to there and beyond. Then the shuttle was not available yet, too early.

On Monday, this scenario kinda startled me. I didn’t have small bills. Shuttle not operating. For some reason i had no reception on my phone. Dont trust the taxis. Didn’t want to run into any shenanigans, errr “I’m getting pulled over by cop...mugger....dont have change, etc...”

So i had $3 in my pocket (originally driver tip), plus hidden spending money split up into my hiding spots. Hmmm... how do i get to HK?!?!

I saw a lady with her hand on an open door to a mini van, yelling: “Al centro, Revolución, Rio...”. All I needed to hear was: REVOLUCIÓN!!! Thats it!! Hopped on and asked is it 20? The driver replied: “I’ll take your 20, but its 10”. Sweet! $0.50, and a 4 min walk. The trick here is that you have to tell driver: la REVU. Its a quick 3-5 min ride to your stop.

Because of the line to cross back to USA was the longest i’ve ever seen, this had me thinking of plan B to cross back on Wednesday, since i had to catch a flight back home and PedWest is closed, maybe forever.

So here goes my suggestion.
OPTIONS to get to HK:
San Ysidro:
1. HK shuttle - tip
2. Uber - $3 approx.
3. TJ bus - 50 cents and a short walk
4. Taxi - should be $5, tip included.

Otay Mesa:
1. Cab/Uber to San Ysidro - $7- but might as well go all the way to HK.

I recently learned that you can leave your car (NOT overnight) at Iris av Station, take trolley to San Ysidro and return. But if the line to get back 🇺🇸 Is stupid long, take a cab to Otay Mesa. Once over to US side. Hop on bus 905 or 950, its $2.50. It’ll take you right to Iris, where your car is parked. This is best for day trips as those busses dont run 24/7.

Hope this helps

Wait, what? "PedWest is closed, maybe forever." For real?? PedWest is the new one...though PedEast has been redone somewhat recently.

    @EastCoaster Thats what I said!!
When i got back to USA, I stopped to tie my shoe lace by the doors leading yo the trolley. There was a chubby border agent where i was, asked if i can tie my shoe lace. He was super chatty. I asked him about the shooting i had heard about the previous day (https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/new…)
And pedwest. He mentioned what i put on the article, that it may never re-open. Don’t make sense to me, its new. Millions of $$. And will free up San Ysidro A LOT.
We will have to see how it evolves.
