Friday night, a female friend texted. 'Meet us at Jumbo's!' When I was running late, she texted, 'We're stageside, wow, beautiful redhead dancer! Where are you?' My friend was right. When I got there, the redhead was back onstage. Her name is Bianca, recently moved to LA from Portland, and she's outstanding in every way. Her body is tight tight, d-cup enhancements on a thin frame. She looks like Julianna Moore's prettier sister. I broke from the crew and sprung for three laps with her, and it was almost as if I wasn't in a bikini bar. She learned to give lap dances by getting lap dances, because this is her first stripping job. She learned well.
And that's the way it is at Jumbo's. Nearly all the girls are basically half-amateurs who do other things, usually dancing in comedy burlesque shows in Hollywood--Star Wars Burlesque, etc. Or they act in tiny indie films. Or they model. Or they play in bands. They all seem to enjoy one another, hang out together, cross paths all over town. It's a little sisterhood of pole dancers with none of the drama of a normal club. That comes through when you talk to them.
And the pole-dancing...if you see AM or Ophelia or any of the others who teach pole dancing on the side, you're seeing two of the best there are. The buxom, slightly salty AM won Entertainer of the Year in 2009 for a nationwide strip club chain. Millions, mention below, works a stage act more outrageous than you'll see at any club. Love that Jumbo's.
