This place had bad news written...
This place had bad news written all over it, even though it was the friendliest club I went to all night. By bad news, I mean a double wide Russian bouncer guarding a locked metal gate a good 20 feet from the entrance. John the Cabbie knew the guy so they chatted outside while I walked in to check the place out.
Walked in the door and had the option to go straight ahead to the bar, or right or left into seating areas. Went left since that's where I saw a small stage and a few girls. There were somewhere between 5 and 10 girls on shift since they suddenly appeared out of thin air once I took a few steps into the club. Not top models, but attractive and charming. The bartender hostess walks over and gives me a quick run down on the place in pretty good english. There were a few booths near the front of the left section, so I pulled up a chair and picked up a menu. The two or three dancers I talked with were also better at english than girls at the other clubs. For whatever reason that's another thing that stood out as odd.
There was music playing, and one of the girls did hop up on the small stage against the left wall and put a few moves together. Lighting, sound, seating and staging were all good. The menu prices were higher here than at the other clubs, with the cover somewhere between 200-250 lei. One interpretation of all this is that Cindy is a little more upscale than most of the other clubs in town (except one). The other is this place could be slick enough to run up a huge bill pretty quickly, with a high fence and beefy security between the customer and the street in a semi-secluded location. I had a guy with me who could probably talk me out of a jam if things went bad, but I knew worst case that The Buddhist was open until 4 or 5 in the morning so I wasn't going to chase a good time here.
