Lately it seems that every time...

Lately it seems that every time I write about how a club is the same as always something changes immediately afterward. Well, this month JP's is no exception. Long time fans will remember this as the best low key club to spend time with a favorite regular dancer, especially on the dayshift. The dances are nice and personal, the atmosphere laid back and low hustle, and the girls, while for the most part not really great, were at least friendly. Since most regulars went there for a specific girl only most of the "marginal" dancers made their tips off of courtesy tips from the regulars there to see the better dancers. This was a model that at least kept the dayshift alive, although at times guys were only going in to see one daytime waitress, Joanne, rather than the day dancers. Joanne left, as did a few other good looking dancers who were willing to work the dayshift, and the dayshift, as I mentioned in my previous review, died. On Mondays they don't even bother to open till 4PM. As I also mentioned I didn't even bother with dayshift anymore, although I did on occasion call the hotline for the schedule, hoping that one of the past daytime hotties would return. Well my wish came true. Halina (a.k.a. Pearl I believe) is back dancing about two day shifts a week. The effect of just one dancer of her caliber shouldn't be dismissed. She has regulars who will come to see her (me among them). These regulars, being experienced clubbers, will spend, and will at least courtesy tip the other dancers. The other dancers start making money, making money means other dancers will work days. More good looking dancers mean more customers and money. Amazing how that works. I've always thought that the owner or manager could revive the dayshift here by just guaranteeing one or two top tier dancers a minimum take home. How to do that would be tricky since you know it'd get out to the less desirable dancers that miss hottie was getting paid to work the shift while they were scraping the barrel for tip out. Anyway, back to recent visits and Halina/Pearl.

As I've said this is a great club for hanging out with a favorite. The dances here are even more up close than Good Guys and the "accidental" contact is a lot more common. In addition the hustle is a lot lower among the other dancers, you will get each dancer circulating after her set to all the patrons for at least a courtesy tip, but they are low key about it and a few bucks is all they expect. Drinks are also a lot cheaper here. Since I described all the redecorating before I won't go back into that, but I will say that after a few more visits I still don't like it as much as the old setup for comfort, intimacy and general feel, it does look a lot better, and it is growing on me.

I also tried something I knew existed but was never too sure about. JP's is I believe the only DC club that offers private dances on the day shift. Don't get excited. These private dances are no contact, stage only, in the upstairs bar for $20. Now while I usually considered these a bit of a ripoff I tried one with Halina. The first thing is that it is $20 for two songs, so the price isn't much above a regular stage set if you are tipping a favorite more than $1 a song. Second, it is private. She dances for you and you alone. No need to worry about giving other customers a turn or monopolizing her. Now I'm not saying this is any great deal, but it is worth considering if you want to watch your girl dance more than 10 minutes once and hour. For the day girls with regulars its a great deal, they get to keep regulars happy, and make a bit more money without having to try and extract tips just for sitting with a guy.
