PLACE:

The strip club I visited in Charleston, West Virginia was dimly lit but surprisingly clean. The interior had a gritty charm, with neon lights casting a red and purple hue across the room, which made everything feel a little hazy and dreamlike. The music was loud, mostly mainstream hip-hop and pop remixes, with a DJ who thankfully didn’t talk much—minimal “DJ annoyance factor,” which was a huge plus. The seating consisted of worn leather couches and high tables, with a few booths that looked like they’d seen better days but were comfortable enough. The bathroom was actually decently maintained, stocked with paper towels and free of that sticky floor horror you sometimes find. Overall, the vibe leaned more toward laid-back than rowdy, and there was no real sense of danger or a heavy “thug factor”—security was present but chill.

PEOPLE:

The crowd was a mix of locals and a few out-of-towners based on the small talk I overheard at the bar. There were about six dancers rotating throughout the night, ranging in ethnicity from white and Black to one Latina performer. The energy among the dancers varied; a couple of them really put effort into their stage sets and made eye contact, while a few seemed bored or going through the motions. That said, none of them seemed hostile or disinterested in patrons who were polite and respectful. The club wasn’t packed, but it wasn’t dead either—just enough people to make it feel alive without being overcrowded. Most of the dancers were friendly when approached, and at least a couple genuinely seemed happy to engage, especially when tipping was involved.
