Merry St. John
This club is now called Allure. It’s located in what looks like an older section of downtown St. John. It was mostly deserted looking at 11 pm on a Thursday evening, but looked safe. There’s a pay parking lot right next to the club, but I drove past it about a half block and parked on the street next to a park.
The entrance is on the street level, but it leads to a spiral staircase and a second level landing where there is a window, a second door and a metal detector manned by a beefy looking bouncer. An older lady behind the window collected a $12 CAD cover charge, stamped my hand, and gave me a small ticket like an old style movie ticket. I asked her what the ticket was for. She said it was for entry. I turned and handed the ticket to the bouncer, who was standing two feet away, and went through the metal detector. It beeped, but he just waved me through.
There is a small lobby area just past the metal detector with a couch and a small bar. There was no one there except a guy wearing a white boat captain’s hat, like the Skipper in Gilligan’s Island, leaning against the bar. There was a door to the right that was half open. I could see metal lockers through the door, so I’m guessing that was the dressing room, but I couldn’t see anyone back there. There was another doorway up a step to the left where I could hear loud music.
