The Playground: Seattle’s Air Dance Emporium
After dinner on a weeknight, headed to Playground with a pal who was in from out of town. I presented multiple dirty options for clubbing, and he picked the cleanest one of the bunch: Playground.
Playground used to be the Sands. It’s been a Seattle fixture since the 1960s, I think. Its fortunes have risen and fallen, and so has its mileage. Located on 15th Ave NW in Ballard, it has one small stage, seating for 30 PL’s, a separate LDA with bench seats and curtained off VIP rooms, a non-alcoholic bar, plus men’s and women’s rooms in the back near the dressing room. They are dedicated purveyors of the idiot doorman, none dumber can be found for miles around. There is a new robot DJ, which is stupid, why borrow the single dumbest aspect of Déjà Vu? Maybe the doorman was in charge of that.
