There have been a lot of reviews of Desire in Providence recently. When I last checked, there were at least sixteen of them in just July and August. I confess to being slightly puzzled at the frequency, given my preconception that it was a smallish, out-of-the way city. It's not Atlanta or Detroit or LA, and yet this club has been generating reviews every couple of days. And some of those reviews are very detailed, including a roster of dancers that indicate either note taking during visits or really exceptional memories on the part of the reviewers. I was passing through Providence, so wanted to make a stop and see for myself. So this review is from a definite non-regular, and covers my impressions from one visit on a recent Saturday evening.

The neighborhood of the club is not pleasant. It's practically under a highway and next to a giant factory/industrial site of some kind. That said, the building itself was in good shape, as was the moderately sized parking lot out front. It was an easy walk from a bunch of different restaurants on the south side of downtown. The end of the walk was a bit lonely, but didn't feel unsafe (though I wasn't out past bar-closing time either).

Through the doors was hall and foyer with a metal detector and a desk to pay a $10 cover. Then you go through doors into the club itself. As others have mentioned there's a sort of separate club upstairs that requires a membership, but I didn't explore that at all. I was pleased with the interior. Nothing felt old or run down, so they must have kept the place up over the years. One oddity is that much of the floor of the main club is tiled rather than carpeted. That wasn't good or bad, just different from other clubs I've been in.
