Nothing has changed at Annie’s, and that’s good. Walk in, walk past the small room on the right with three booths for private dances, the pool table. Walk along the bar to its end and you’ll see the low rail that makes two lines of a rectangle, to the left and back to a corner of the small room. No stage, with the dancers on the floor, working from a pole in the middle.

It’s the only strip club in this coastal town, and for about 90 miles in any direction. It’s a small town, small club with a friendly feel and its own quirks. A few years back a large melee needed the police to break up the two warring sides, loggers and commercial fisherman, after they abandoned reasoned debate about who had the more dangerous job, and went outside to settle it.

It was sport fishing season which brings out the fishermen who spend their days throwing bait in the water and their nights throwing dollars at the dancers. Many dancers put Annie’s on their calendars for these days each year, and good-looking talent shows up. I saw a lovely tall naturally well-endowed blonde dancer, the best I’ve ever seen there, and she was spinning on the pole like a lure and all the boys were dazzled and generous.
