On my last trip through St. Louis I decided to give some of the sketchier clubs a try. I'm not usually a big fan of dives, but some of the reviews made it sound like I might have an economically good time with properly set expectations. This proved overly optimistic for the most part.

I first tried Dollies on a Thursday around 9:00pm. It's a bit more on the edge of Washington Park. The road changes noticeably as you get within a block or so, and the parking lot had cavernous holes in it. I went inside. There was no cover and no one there, neither patron nor dancer. I turned around and left.

I gave it another try on Friday around 10:00pm. There was still no cover. This time there were a few people there. The club is small, with a small bar near the entrance and a small stage in the rectangular seating area. A bottle of water at the club was $5. One of the dancers at the bar, a thick, curvy acted very surprised to see me, as apparently I didn't fit the mold of the other/usual customers. She was friendly, though a bit drunk I think, and talked to me for a while, largely about her ex, while sharing the notorious Washington Park handshake.
