The Incredible Shrinking Club
I got into Fort Lauderdale late, went to my hotel, freshened up, and headed to Booby Trap, arriving about 11:30 p.m. I think the first time I visited the Booby Trap was about three or four years ago. At that time, I noted scaffolding around the building, and some members commented that renovations had been going on for years. The scaffolding is gone, but the work continues. Most of the exterior appears to complete, and it looks pretty nice, but there is still what looks like a temporary front entrance. There was a guy sitting in a chair out front watching the parking lot, but I Ubered over so I don’t know what the parking charge was, if any. The cover charge was $5.
Inside, the club looks pretty much exactly the same as the last time I was there, at least what’s left of it. It is now only about 2/3 as big as the last time I visited, and it wasn’t that big to start with. There is a small narrow stage immediately to your left as you enter. It wasn’t being used for dancing, but it was being used as a lounge area for 7 or 8 or so dancers, who were lined up along the edge of the stage, feet dangling, looking at their phones. Further to the left up a couple steps is small oval shaped bar, and then past that is the entrance to the VIP area.
There is a small bar against the back wall across from the entrance. Next to that bar is doorway marked with a “Friction Dance” sign that I think is new. To the right is the main club area, with the main stage, seating area, and high top tables along the wall. The last time I was there, there was also another bar to the far right, as well as another stage, and (I think), a lap dance area. All of that is now gone and the area is walled off, so the club is smaller than it was before, and it wasn’t very big to begin with, although the building itself is pretty big. What is going on in the rest of the building?
