I Second the Vote for Mediocre

This place was just okay. The club's probably going to be on the outs for a while from the look of things. It really didn't have anything going on at all, other than snippy waitresses were hassling me for fucking drinks. One of things that one of the TUSCL heavyweights asked me to do was to share some things I thought about Detroit clubs compared to other towns I’d seen. This would have been a club I would like to have seen before they got shaken down by LE. I won’t say the club sucked, but it definitely had a feeling like a lot of fun was getting left on the table.

I will say that this place didn’t have the oh shit please not let anything else bad happen vibe that Legends had going on. This is the club I went to after Legends, so all the extra angst those guys had going on in the LD area was fresh in my mind. The raids are not a joke, though. I remember being in one of my all time favorite clubs when a raid went down, and almost ten years later the place still hasn’t fully recovered.

This club had an interesting set up on the main stage. The tables were set up hub and spoke style from the stage and the dancers could walk or crawl from the stage out onto the smaller rectangular table tops. Like little spikes of mini stages off a rectangle. Customers seated around the little tables could get like a little bit of a grind as the dancer went around. The only problem was customers were spaced a little funky, meaning that trying to sit at any of the tables or nearby chairs seemed like crashing a party. At a place like Follies there is so much going strangers don’t care if other strangers crash their table space. This place didn’t have that open a vibe. Since the tables didn’t leave much open space around stage, the best place to tip standing were by the stairs. That’s also where the dancers kept their money and belongings, so it also wasn’t a great spot to stand.
