This club is a 6 based on potential alone -- but a 2 based on current reality. It has the potential to be a great club if you're into Boston nostalgia –- the same way that the Glass Slipper is great. If you’re under 40, chances are you don’t know what strip clubs were like before the 1990s. This The Hightap is the last true dive strip club in Mass. and maybe New England. The problem here, however, is that they don’t capitalize on that and instead just run a dive that is generally unfriendly (particularly to people lacking color). It doesn’t seem to matter what time of day you go to this club, although I wouldn’t suggest going at 10pm on a Friday. If you want to check it out, I would suggest late afternoon, mid-week. But keep in mind you’re not going to see a bevy of hot pole dancers. You’re going to see 1 or 2 fat black women who are anything but hot (so go there for the dive experience, not the Centerfolds experience). This club is located right off of Dudley Square in Roxbury, and is most visible from Eustis St, the cross street to Washington. For out-of-towners, forget it! This is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country and the reward of this place is not worth the many potential risks. For adventurous locals, it is worth exploring, either simply to have done once or to try get it going again. It really does have potential – it could only improve.
