Sammy's is a venerable Birmingham institution, but it is starting to show it's age. The physical location is in an increasingly run down area, not that it is dangerous, I have never felt even slightly uncomfortable, just a part of town that has lots of empty buildings since the downturn in the economy. The decor remains unchanged since I first went, 15 years ago, except for some new neon on the stages. Drinks are fairly cheap, music is loud and girls are topless, so thats always a start. The issue is that the club is very regular dominated, hell I should know I used to be one. The place just looks bad compaired to its competitor across town the Furnace, which I don't like either.

The problem is not so much either club, its Alabama, or more specifically the Birmingham area. I have been to a lot of places and a bunch of clubs, and very few locals are less friendly to adult entertainment than this. If a girls is doing a "dance" for you and comes within a foot of making contact with you then alarm bells all but sound. They dance well and always have some nifty poll workers but if you have ever been to a club that allows any level of contact this is going to quickly become boring. Literally only go out in Birmingham if you want to drink and see topless girls. With Atlanta a no-contact zone and South Carolina far away, I doubt many people in the area know the difference, but if your on this website you do so save your money and stay away.
