The Hawthorne is in a bit...
The Hawthorne is in a bit of a remote and uninspiring location but I called in on the way back from a run down Foster Road. It didn’t look too exciting on the inside either when I first entered. There is a very small, narrow bar area, one of the tiniest stages I’ve seen in Portland and the place was very quiet. However, I was given the friendliest of welcomes by the lovely girl behind the bar and by a dancer sitting at the bar between her stage shows.
The beer was close to $5, which I thought was high given the remote location, and there wasn’t a fantastic choice but more choice than there was in food. What I ate was fine though, albeit I would have done a lot better for the same price at other clubs. The service at the bar was very good though.
There were three girls working in total. All of them friendly enough and they were much more traditional in their approach, in that they would happily chat to you if you bought them a drink but then after a while would try to get you to dance with them. Still, despite a little hustle, I actually quite like this because it means you get to spend some time getting to know a woman before you dance with her and if you take occasional dances and its not too busy the girls seem happy to fill in the gaps by staying with you the whole time you are there.
