My 2 cents - violence in TJ is up, I wouldn't recommend walking around anywhere in TJ besides Calle Cohulia (the street that HK is on) and stay between Ninos Heros and Constitution. If you must venture out of that area, walk in the middle of the street as it makes it much harder for the rateros to attack.

Friday and Saturday nights are the worst, lots of dudes. There was probably 150+ girls there but most were arriba. Next time just walk around for a hour or two and wait until you see someone you like. Then approach them, don't just sit back and wait for them. Or ask the masero to find you a girl (like you did) - but I wouldn't commit to anything before seeing the girl. In my experience its best to check with the bouncer. I've had several times where the girls number of daces were way too high and the bouncer sided with me. The last ROB was a tall skinny Taylor Swift look-alike. Even after the bouncer agreed with me on # of dances she continued to argue with me about it. The bouncers know which girls do it and they don't stand for it, at least in my experience.
