I just did a roadtrip around the US, and visited many many strip clubs. Every place is different in what they expect. Just observe and see what everyone else is doing. Some places people don't tip at all at the rail, some places girls will come around and ask everyone in the club for a tip for their dance, not just the guys at the rail.
I went into a club in Portland with a buddy that lives there. We sat down at the rail, he immediatly puts down a $1, I'm holding mine in my hand. The dancer was across on the other side of the small round stage, and I half jokingly tell my buddy "you're just going to lay it out there? You gotta make her earn it!" The girl immediatly stops dancing and comes to our side of the stage, pulls my buddys dollar down onto the stage, and starts bitching at me. "Do you work for free? I don't. If you are sitting here you better be putting a dollar down!" Mind you, this is my first time in this club, or any strip club in Portland, we'd just gotten there, and I HAVE A DOLLAR IN MY FRIGGIN HAND! I tell her "Oh, is that how it works here?" then stand up and walk over to the other stage and start tipping the dancer there.
Worked out good for my buddy though. I sat on the far side of the other stage, and the dancer at the first stage glared at me for her 3 songs while giving my buddy all her attention.
I love most strippers, but some of their attitudes just piss me off.

I think that kind of thing does happen alot. Was at a club on the north end of Phoenix, killing time and waiting for a buddy to get off work. Girl does the stroll by, asks if I want a dance. She wasn't really my type, so I say I'm not quite ready for one yet. She sat down at the table in front of me, so as not to keep other girls from approaching, but did chat with me. Her turn on the pole comes up, she is getting a lot of tips from a couple of guys at the stage. She comes off the stage and walks over to me, still naked, and tells me that those guys really wanted some dances, but she doesn't want to do any for them. She asks if I would please get one from her so she doesn't have to give them any. I give in and get a couple $10 dances, then she comes back to my table and ignores the guys. I probably should have asked her more about it, but I didn't think much of it at the time.

Was at Deja Vu in Vegas in the middle of the afternoon, pretty slow. It was Tuesday and every once in a while they would do 5/$100 specials. Don't remember what the normal price was. Went back there for the 5 songs and we were both having a great time, so she poked her head out and asked the boss if we could do the special again. Said she's start counting on the next song but danced thru that one too, after 6 more songs she poked her head out again to see if we could do the special one more time. Once again said she'd start counting on the next song but kept dancing anyway. After 6 more songs she said she'd lost count and that the next one was probably number 5. So got 20 songs out of 3 * 5/$100. Then we sat at the bar for next couple of hours talking and kind of cuddling cause she was cold. Gave me her # and email addy, and signed a picture she had for me. (She was some kind of fetish model too, and had a picture in the back she went and got for me.)
For the $300 I probably could have gotten a vegas escort for an hour instead, but I think it was worth it.
