Captain Cream Cabaret
Location. The club is located in Lake Forest, south of the I-5 and I-405 intersection – do yourself a favor (well, I hate making left turns across traffic – which is what you have to do if you exit Lake Forest – and that’s only IF you know to turn into the first strip mall on your left after turning North on to Rockview), take the Bake Parkway exit, head east on Bake Parkway and turn right on Rockview. Stay in the right lane. Pass the Irvine Auto Center, look for the IHOP and turn right into the strip mall parking lot. Captain Crèam is off to the left. There is plenty of parking and you won’t feel threatened in this lot – this isn’t your typical ‘club located in an isolated industrial park – I need a bodyguard’ type of location.
Outside Appearance. The club exterior is bland – except for CAPTAIN CREAM in huge letters – it is several strip mall units joined together to make the club.
Interior. Once you walk in and get past the entry fee counter ($5 when I went in at 6:30 PM on a Tuesday evening – I’ve read it’s higher later in the evening) you’ll see the interior is one of the nicest around (better than Ecstasy, better than Taboo, better than Paradise, better than Déjà vu) – you might not agree with the decorator’s tastes, but it doesn’t have a run-down-needs-renovation feeling at all. It’s rather well lit inside. This club has one drink ($6) minimum and the bar is to the right upon entrance – either mosey up to one of the 6 or so barstools or take a seat and wait for the waitresses. There are two stages, each with 15-20 seats tip-rail side. Numerous small tables with fairly comfy chairs occupy the rest of the floor – but plenty of walking space at the edges. Though you might think it odd of me to mention the restroom – I have to because this club has the best restroom I’ve visited in any club I’ve been to. High class – complete with an attendant offering cologne’s, lotions, towels, etc – I typically am put off by this type of service in fancy hotels, but at this club it was nice – the attendant doesn’t try hardselling – just chats friendly like. AND the stalls actually have doors that lock – stop laughing – several clubs I’ve been to leave the doors off for *security* reasons.
Staff. I counted about 6 staff, including the bar tenders, waitresses, doorman & er, bouncers. Hey, this club adheres to the ‘don’t paw the dancer’ rule.
The show. As a rule, only one stage is used when the crowd is light. That said, I was surprised when stage 2 was activated during my visit – the crowd was light, and No One was at the 2nd stages tip rail, and NO ONE paid attention (well, except me) to the dancer on the second stage. The dancer on the second stage was spunky, though, and danced without any tippers (ok, I thought she was very attractive and later did get a lap dance from her). I visited the club two weeks in a row, seeing different dancers each visit. The dancers were all 7s or above, with a 10 on each visit. Of the 5 clubs in SoCal that I frequent, only Ecstasy has dancers as attractive. These ladies are pretty – centerfolds in the flesh. As a topless (not totally nude on stage) club, the dancers are good at accentuating their breasts when they dance – I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, topless. One dancer I spoke to put it well – ‘I’m in my burlesque stage’ – and that’s what you’ll see on stage - burlesque. I was surprised on my second visit by one dancer, though she was limited to being topless, she was very sensual in her dance, leaning over the tip rail in a most provocative manner. I guess I mention this because I frequent clubs where the dancers are totally nude on stage – which gives them an edge in being provocative because they show what guys want to see – so when a dancer can still be sexually provocative with her panties on, I applaud her.
The lap dance. I was charged $20 for a lap dance – one song long. Lap dances are done at the back of the club (I mean farthest from the door – I don’t mean to imply that the dancer and the customer have any privacy). Seats for the customer are in an L shape; the seat I sat in for my lap dances was near a pole that the dancer could use during her routine. This is a no touch club – you sit in the chair and the dancer does her dance – that said, I asked my lap dance partners and was told if the dancer feels comfortable, she will initiate contact – but not much – security (nicely dressed) is within 25 feet.
Conclusion. Captain Cream is a well maintained and staffed club, with very lovely ladies dancing burlesque (with some of the most sophisticated lingerie I’ve seen in any club – not a silly costume in sight – I felt like I was watching Marlene Dietrich in the Blue Angel, or Liza Minelli in Cabaret). Do come here to see very satisfying eye candy, don’t come here expecting to fulfill a sexual fantasy with a beautiful woman.
