Was signing up with a new dentist, and they said have my old dentist send my records via email to their address. And as I say, their business account is at gmail.
When I mentioned Gmail's famous lack of privacy, they said dentists send secure transmissions. Huh?
I am not very tech savvy, but even I pay 25 bucks a year for an email domain that doesn't snoop like Gmail does. At a minimum it seems very unprofessional. And it gives the impression they are careless with their patient's data.
Or is there really such a thing as secure transmission of data within Gmail?

last commentThey probably send encrypted emails. Many of my clients do it often. Gmail has something called confidential email.
Depending on the software they use, it may be encrypted before Gmail ever gets it. You can request a copy and hand deliver it yourself

I tend to balk at companies which use gmail, outlook, and other such domain addresses. It is lazy, and purely a cost-saving measure. It shows lack of pride in your brand, and a lack of innovation in your approach to business.
The benefits outweigh expense. A domain name will come with the ability to create a website. I actually created and managed our own website using wordpress, and still authorize all edits. We maintain pages on all social media except tiktok as a matter of course, but I am also disappointed to see physicians only using facebook and not a unique website. Having a unique website domain also gives you access to more professional sites and networks like webmd and doximity, which will not allow you to add and edit a provider profile with a public email domain.

Thanks for both replies. I think you both are correct. It's probably not a problem he uses gmail, but it does seem lazy. Will pick a different dentist.
