To the question: one reason is that in Mexico people tip less. Like the credit card terminal at a nice restaurant is going to have 3 options for tips: 8%, 10%, 15%, versus an American terminal that might suggest 18%, 22%, 25%. The options for tipping an Uber driver will all be a few paltry pesos.

Europeans have a similar problem traveling stateside.
