Also, does anyone know: What's the legality of recording the police in Mexico or Baja California?
If I'm getting shaken down, can my wingman film it so there's evidence for this new anti-corruption force? (Or would that be a terrible idea for the wingman?)
Of interest, while staying at Rio Rita hotel a few weeks ago, it was swarming with uniformed police. The bellman, Dimitrie, said that most were from Mexico City, and included a SWAT team, there to crack down on corrupt police. He said almost 20 local officers have been arrested.
I will be back in a few weeks. Hope this effort is effective. If there are any incidents experienced by members of this forum, please be sure to report them so we can track this issue.
Anything that will stop or drastically reduce the number of times we get shaken down when we visit TJ is much appreciated. I know HK and the other ZN club owners don’t want to lose the revenue Americans bring to their places, whether it’s in a club or a hotel (Cascadas and Rizo), so hopefully this helps.
@Ron I think that would be very risky to take video of Mexican cops. What advice do you get from the chicas you see there about how to avoid shakedowns? The safe visitor thing may be pure PR. Even if it isn't, highly dubious they have sex tourism in mind. They wouldn't want if to be widely known they were facilitating sex tourism.

ATF always advises keeping your cash in two places. Most of it goes in your underpants or belt if possible. Then you carry a small amount that you are prepared to lose in your wallet. That and avoiding the police, lol.
I'm actually encouraged by this development. They did a similar thing in Cancún a while back and I think it worked, most people will tell you the Cancún municipal police are on the level these days.
next time I go (which might be in about a month or so) I'm planning on visiting the syndicatura office to register my experience of the bandits with badges. hopefully this time I'll get in the door (unlike the last time a year and a half ago) when I had the door slammed shut by a policia officer in front of me as I approached the building.

last comment¡Que interesante!
Thanks for sharing, I hadn't seen that, though I've heard the rumors bubbling around about this new mayor's initiative. This really sounds legit.
Two clutch pieces of info the article didn't share (I had to scan the QR code in one of the article's photos for this):
I've saved that shit in my phone and if there is any funny business on my next trip, getting on a call will be my first step.
Thanks for sharing @devl_dawgg!

I also want to note for the record that the mayor of Tijuana has gigantic fucking neck. Maybe he can wrestle the corruption out of all the police.
