Has anyone used TJMexExpress? They are on the HK website and offer car service from San Diego directly to HK/Cascadas. I was quoted $80 for the trip which isn't that much more than an Uber to the border depending on traffic. I'll be dragging a suitcase and backpack so this seems more convenient. Also, as a HK contractor I'm guessing they'll be more likely to dodge the "bandits with badges"? Thoughts?

Jump to latestYeah, I’ve heard about it before. in your case. It might be worthwhile. But I won’t be using it. I got a routine that works already.
@Jascoi, Yeah, I normally use the trolley from downtown but, this trip is the end of a work trip and I'll be dragging around a week worth of clothes and work electronics... Seems like this might be a better option this trip.
Yeah, with your situation, it may be worthwhile. I think they pick up at the airport normally but maybe they do custom pick ups as needed from your Hotel.
I have talked to the driver a few times yet I only know of friends (who I gave them the contact number) who taken it as it didn't work out for me.
My friend likes it because it is airport to door driving though the border. Depending on the time of day driving though can take time or save time but you don't have to walk through and find another ride to ZN which isn't fun with a suitcase.
I had two friends take it down together last trip but they had to wait 30 minutes at the airport for another traveler to arrive before it headed down. He didn't like that which is understandable because you are itching to get down and could have taken a ride share (Uber/Lyft).
I only know pricing for me was $80. You probably need to give a decent tip as well because he makes the round trip. I don't know how it worked pricing wise sharing, but that was what I was looking for to see if another traveler would be there at the same time. If the $80 is cut in half, then it would be worth it.
Also, high traffic times, services might not run or be more expensive. I'm my case it was Sunday night and he was with family which was no big deal because I took a ride share for half the cost.
If you look into ride share, I would recommend looking into Lyft as everytime I have compared it is cheaper compared to Uber. Last trip Uber didn't give pricing until I booked because it was during rush hour guess so I didn't even know what they were going to charge. Half the time, I check Lyft and don't book a ride, I get a notification for 10% which dropped the price down to like $33. Yet normally the price is $40 to $46 depending on time of day.
I have once met a rideshare guy who lived in TJ. For $25 after or trip to San Ysidro ended he drove me in which I didn't mind because I was coming in late at night. It literally was less than 7 minutes from San Ysidro through the border (we didn't stop) and to the front door of Cascadas which was awesome considering the time. So I have driven end to end in a non-conventional way.
@justinyoo. Great info, thanks!
