Pope Francis dead at 88
gammanu95Have you ever tried to stick a silver dollar into a stripper's G-string?
I am not Catholic, and did not agree with everything he said. He was a 180-degree turn from the previous pontiff, and may have been an overcorrection. He was a globalist as well as a humanitarian. His preaching to the slums is an important lesson to other Catholic leaders. He saw a lot of firsts during his reign, and seemed to be an honest and decent man. RIP

last commentIf anyone has time to watch the movie “Two Popes”, it will warm your heart. Although fictional, it was based on Pope Grancis taking over the position from Pope Benedict. I hear Conclave is a good one, too.

The first Pope to realize Jesus' message was one of social justice. The name Francis was very fitting

Icey loves Francis because he supported homos joining the church.

He seemed more focused on global warming and trashing capitalism than excising the rot within the church.
He still only dealt with the sex abuse scandals in a superficial, performative way without major institutional change.
I hope they choose better this time around.

He was crap as a Pope. He spent more time focusing on his personal social agenda than on doctrine and the retention/growth of Catholics in the faith.
His leadership was particularly lacking during the first year of COVID, when the priests of the Catholic Church completely retreated from their congregations. This happened even in many places where religious observance was exempt from public health orders, including a number of U.S. states.
Weekly church attendance and receiving holy communion have always been critical elements of the Catholic faith. But during COVID that message changed, instead saying that holy communion was only important when it was easy and convenient to do. A lot of Catholics have never returned, especially young Catholics who read that message loud and clear. If the cowardly priests didn't really believe their own messaging enough to brave adversity and administer to the faithful, why should they believe it?
Anyway, it's sad to see a Pope die, even one as bad as this one. But on the glass half full side, now maybe the Church can find new leadership and a new direction.

Rick thats a highly disrespectful post especially on Easter monday. You might as well have done some OTC yesterday or even today

Jesus is all about social justice thats what the pope focused on. Jesus message. And adhering to public safety protocols during a pandemic is the right thing to do . Others mentioned the pope being bad for blessing gays and lesbians. Opposed war, genocide, xenophobia. Supported compassion over punishment.
So basically he was a bad pope according to you because he didnt adhere to right wing doctrine.
Sick fucks

===> "And adhering to public safety protocols during a pandemic is the right thing to do"
It was cowardly, especially once we learned that it posed no serious threat to almost anyone under 50 and very little threat to those under 60.
The right way to manage this would have been for the bishops to issue dispensations for the weekly mass obligation for anyone who feared entering the church, but for priests to continue to minister to those who did not. Instead they hid away for over a year, even in states where they were not required to by law (including Florida).
The message they sent is that they lacked the convictions of their onw beliefs, which is why so many Catholics still have not returned.

I get no joy in anyone's death, but I am not mourning the pedophile denier, jew-hating, left-winger. The only benefit to him being Pope is that knowing how I felt about him, my Wife wasn't making me attend anything Easter. Hope the choose another douchebag.

As an atheist, I absolutely long for Popes like Francis to show the hypocrisy and corruption of the Church. Here's to finding another like him.

Rick youre saying they lack conviction in their faith for not wanting people to die. Its not Jonestown....

I can respect and even admire someone with whom I disagree, as long as they are intelligent, ethical, and honest. Most liberals in the United States, TUSCL, and global leadership are none of these things. Pope Francis was a liberal, a globalist, and selected specifically for his leftist views. I say he was a globalist because he was. He felt that mass migration was good and addressing global warming was an important part of spiritual salvation. He was careful not to cross the deep church which had sabotaged Pope Benedict. But he was honest about his intentions and thoughts. There was no hypocrisy, deception, nor malice in his orders and actions. He was able to clearly explain his intentions and the reasons behind them. I still disagree, but how many global leaders are left of that caliber? Look at his peers - Biden, Putin, Xi, Macron, Starmer. They are all idiots and villains. Only Netanyahu and Trump are even trying to maintain that level of honesty and ethics, but Trump cannot explain himself as clearly and Netanyahu has own issues.
When all is said and done, I hope the next Pope is more Conservative and less of a PC and woke liberal. However, I am not Catholic so it will not affect me any more than other global politics.

Gammanu i dont understand mentioning Netanyahus name alongside Trumps, as an example of an honest and ethical leader, lol.
For starters, Trump himself reposted a video referring to Netanyahu as a deep dark son of a bitch.
Moreover, no matter your views on the israel palestine conflict… netanyahu has been shown as dishonest and corrupt time after time. He wasnt facing nonsensical charges like trump. There are many pro israel extremists who dont like netanyahu. Even trump himself appears to specifically believe he is dishonest. So that totally debunks this narrative of netanyahu somehow being on the caliber of trump or pope francis. Even trump really isn’t comparable. If youre talking about honesty, maybe, but francis is obviously religious whereas trump isnt.

@Icey: I'm saying that they should have kept ministering to those who were NOT at serious risk of dying and granted dispensation to those who were at higher risk or simply more afraid. Shutting down the churches for the first month or two made sense - we didn't know what we were dealing with. Keeping them shut for a whole year was fucking asinine.

@Icey "Jesus is all about social justice thats what the pope focused on". Jesus focused on how to teach people to fish for themself, and kindness, not welfare for whomever.

@Icey @Gammanu didn't say he hated the Pope. You are typical of what fucking Progressives do - they pick and choose sound bites what fits THEIR narrative and then through Molotov Cocktails. Disagreeing is not a problem, hatred and spitting vileness is a sign of YOUR weakness. And, I hope the puff of white smoke provides a Conservative LEANING, not radical, Pope.

@gammanu95 "Biden, Putin, Xi, Macron, Starmer. They are all idiots and villains" That's the SHORT list. Too many small countries have ponied up to the CCP and have been seduced by what the the CCP "gives" them. The CCP is a like a heroin pusher, 'First few hits are one me." Once addicted, detox is BRUTAL. These cowardly countries need to get inline with the USA. It's complicated and will take a long painful time to detox. Meanwhile, the Globalists will continue to throw a shit fit to pressure markets and Gold to bend to their demands, just like Soros did to clobber the UK Pound 30 years ago. These people evil, soulless leaches.

Throughout history,
it has been the inaction of those who could have acted;
the indifference of those who should have known better;
the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.
Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed.
And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place…

@icey "Mogul. Put your tinfoil hat on and sit in the corner. Study language comprehension dumb bitch" I knew this was coming. You have zippy-do-da to back it up. At least Clinton saw the writing on the wall for hime and made getting a job a criteria for welfare and it worked as food stamp recipients dropped. Now we have people, here in CO, screaming for MORE Section 8 housing funding, not incentives to bring in better paying companies.
Nice pathic try! Oh yeah, "Language Comprehension?" Huh? Enjoy the hookah, don't breath quite as deep.

@mogul1985 It was indeed the short list. I tried to limit it to players who could unilaterally influence global events, and avoid tyrannical dictatorships like DPRK and IRI (low-hanging fruit). The PRC belt and road project is the most dishonest and maliciously coercive global initiative since the USSR. I can see why banana republics may accept such a generous offer, but how can anyone be so short-sighted to the obvious long-term repercussions?
I hope the next pope uses his global reach and influence to push against the godless Communist expansion and rally for the freedom of choice which is the basis for Christian salvation.

I'm noticing that Jimmy Carter, who was a far worse leader and did much more damage in his four years as executive, had more love and defenders than Pope Francis is receiving on here.

I have the opinion that Francis had a style sort of like Biden in the sense that he tried to play the “moderate” and it backfired on him. He tried to placate the more modern crowd and also the more traditional crowd (especially on topics like homosexuality) and ended up pissing off people in both camps because of that.
I’ve noticed the Church congregation in more recent times seems to be trying to become more traditional. A whole lot of women are wearing veils, and I don’t ever remember that being a thing. My Dad told me that was common when he was a child. I also don’t remember the “Kyrie Eleison” prayer as a child, but it’s widespread now and apparently has traditional ties too.
I wouldn't be surprised if the next Church leadership is extra traditional. At least from what I’ve seen, I get the impression that is what the congregation wants.
